Shops can completely refuse to cooperate, newer items can throw off your plans, and sometimes the build you were absolutely convinced would work turns into a pile of questionable purchases.
That’s pretty much what makes Oaken Tower fun.
Two builds stood out during these early Season 2 matches: an aggressive Tempo Burn build and a slower-scaling Moon build.
They approach a run from completely different directions. Burn wants to get strong immediately, pile pressure onto opponents, and collect wins before their setups become ridiculous. Moon is much happier taking a few punches early while quietly scaling into something that can tear through later fights.
Both managed to reach 10 wins, but the path there was very different.
If you’re trying to climb during Oaken Tower Season 2, there are some useful lessons in both runs.
Oaken Tower Season 2 Tempo Burn & Moon Build Guide
There’s always the temptation in an autobattler to build toward the perfect endgame board.
The problem is that you need to survive long enough to actually reach it.
That’s where tempo comes in.
Instead of spending half the run holding components for some theoretical combination, a tempo-focused strategy asks a much simpler question:
What purchase makes me stronger in the next fight?
That’s particularly useful early in a season when opponents aren’t necessarily running perfectly optimized builds.
You don’t need the greatest theoretical build in Oaken Tower history.
You need something stronger than the player you’re about to fight.
The Burn run demonstrated this perfectly. Rather than waiting for every ideal item, the strategy was to grab useful Burn pieces, build immediate damage, and start collecting wins.
Oaken Tower Tempo Burn Build Explained
The initial plan for the Burn build was beautifully uncomplicated:
If an item says Burn, consider taking it.
Obviously, there’s more decision-making involved once the run gets going, but that basic approach gives you an early direction.
The starting setup included:

Wildfire
Arcane Mace
Flare
Flame Orb
Blazing Bull

Later, the run started looking for stronger pieces such as the Molten Bow, which became one of the more important upgrades.
The idea isn’t simply to collect every fire-themed object you see. You’re trying to establish enough Burn application that the damage begins overwhelming opponents before their defensive or scaling engines fully come online.
Burn Is So Good for Early Wins
Burn proved particularly useful against opponents relying heavily on early shielding.
A huge shield total can look intimidating when a fight begins, but steadily building Burn gives you another way to push through those defenses.
That’s exactly where this strategy feels comfortable.
You’re not necessarily constructing something designed to survive forever.
You’re trying to win now.
That distinction matters.
The build managed to establish an early winning record because its immediate power was better than several opponents that were investing more heavily into scaling or levels.
There was even an opponent who had clearly prioritized leveling, creating what was effectively a free early win.
That’s one of the reasons tempo strategies can be so effective: while somebody else is preparing for their future board, you’re hitting them with the board you already have.
Don’t Waste Gold Chasing the Perfect Burn Item
Here’s where the run nearly became a lesson in what not to do.
Once you’re committed to a build, it’s very easy to start convincing yourself that the next reroll will contain exactly what you need.
Then another reroll.
Then another.
And suddenly half your economy has disappeared.
The Burn run spent a significant amount of time searching for the desired bow while the shop repeatedly offered unwanted Flares and other pieces.
This is where forcing builds becomes dangerous.
Having a target is useful.
Destroying your economy because the shop refuses to give you that target isn’t.
One particularly useful mechanic mentioned during the run is that having an item in your inventory increases your odds of finding that item in the shop.
That means keeping unwanted pieces around can potentially influence what you’re seeing.
If you’re already tired of being offered an item, think carefully about whether keeping a copy around is helping your run.
When Should You Level Up?
Leveling creates another constant decision:
Do you spend your resources becoming stronger through levels, or spend them finding and upgrading actual build pieces?
There isn’t one universal answer.
During the Burn run, free rerolls were sometimes deliberately saved until after leveling because moving into a higher level could improve the chances of finding stronger items.
That’s a much better use of rerolls than automatically pressing the button just because it’s free.
If your current board is already strong enough to win the next fight, ask yourself whether you actually need to roll.
Sometimes the best shop decision is doing absolutely nothing.
Save the reroll.
Save the gold.
Level first.
Then search from the stronger shop pool.
Flame Orb and Building Burn
Flame Orb became one of the useful pieces for pushing the Burn strategy forward.
Rather than simply keeping weaker temporary items forever, the run began transitioning toward pieces that could build more meaningful Burn on important targets such as Blazing Bull.
Multiple Flame Orbs also appeared throughout the run.
This highlights another important Oaken Tower habit: your early board doesn’t need to be your final board.
Something can be worth buying because it helps you win three fights and still be worth selling later.
Players sometimes get too attached to pieces simply because they’ve been on the board since Day 1.
Don’t.
If an item has done its job and you’ve found something better, move on.
Dragon Skull and Looking Ahead
The Dragon Skull was picked up preemptively because there was potential synergy if the desired bow appeared later.
This is the sort of speculative purchase that can make sense when the upside is high and the cost doesn’t cripple you.
But there’s a difference between preparing for synergy and filling your entire inventory with things that might eventually become useful.
Your current strength still matters.
The run repeatedly walked that line between preparing for stronger combinations and spending too much trying to manufacture them.
Molten Bow Was the Burn Build’s Big Pickup
Eventually, the shop finally cooperated.
The Molten Bow appeared.
This was the item the build had been searching for, and Burn could immediately begin scaling on it.
That’s the payoff for having a clear direction.
Once a major synergy piece appears, you don’t have to sit there wondering whether it belongs in your build.
You already know what you’re trying to accomplish.
The danger is everything you spend before finding it.
That’s why I’d treat Molten Bow as an important goal rather than something your entire run must collapse without.
Value Potion Can Create Some Sneaky Economy
One of the more entertaining discoveries involved the Value Potion.
Its effect allows you to use it on an item to double that item’s sell value.
That immediately creates some interesting economic possibilities.
Instead of thinking about every item exclusively in terms of combat strength, you can potentially buy, improve, or manipulate something and later convert it back into a larger pile of gold.
During the run, an item affected by this interaction was sold for 45 gold, providing a useful economic boost.
These little economy interactions are worth paying attention to because extra gold eventually translates into more rerolls, upgrades, levels, and opportunities to find your actual win condition.
Goblet Can Turn Into a Serious Economy Tool
Goblet ended up becoming another surprisingly valuable part of the run.
After upgrading the relevant interaction, selling could produce multiple Goblets, creating considerably more value.
The upgraded setup eventually reached effects including increased item damage, increasing value at the start of the day, and generating additional gold.
Was it absolutely necessary when the run was already approaching its final win?
Probably not.
Was becoming ridiculously rich entertaining?
Absolutely.
More importantly, it demonstrates how quickly an economy engine can snowball in Oaken Tower.
Just remember that gold doesn’t win the fight sitting in your wallet.
Eventually, you have to turn that economy into actual board strength.
Tempo Burn’s Biggest Weakness
The weakness appeared as stronger opponents entered the matchmaking pool.
A heavy Poison setup eventually demolished the Burn board.
That’s the tradeoff.
A tempo strategy can bully slower early-game setups, but if you don’t convert your early advantage into enough wins, eventually you’ll meet builds whose scaling has caught up.
At that point, “I was really strong six rounds ago” doesn’t help much.
The Burn run therefore wasn’t trying to construct the ultimate late-game composition.
It was trying to reach 10 wins before that became necessary.
And it worked.
Should You Force Burn Every Match?
Probably not.
One of the biggest lessons from the run was actually about forcing builds too aggressively.
If the game is offering you strong Burn components, pushing into Burn makes sense.
If you’re spending every coin desperately rerolling because you decided before the first shop that you’re playing Burn no matter what, you’re making the game harder for yourself.
There’s a useful middle ground:
Commit when the game gives you a reason to commit.
You can have a preferred strategy without ignoring everything the shop is telling you.
Tempo Burn Build Quick Strategy
For players who want the basic approach, I’d play it something like this:

Grab efficient early Burn pieces.
Prioritize immediate combat strength.
Use Burn to pressure defensive and shield-heavy early boards.
Don’t reroll endlessly for one specific item.
Save free rerolls when leveling first will improve your shop.
Look for Flame Orb and stronger Burn synergies.
Transition toward Molten Bow when available.
Use economy tools such as Value Potion intelligently.
Keep upgrading pieces that actually contribute to your win condition.
Try to finish the run before stronger late-game scaling builds take over.

That’s the philosophy behind the build more than any rigid six-item list.
And honestly, that’s probably healthier.
Oaken Tower shops aren’t going to hand you the exact same board every run.
Switching Things Up: The Moon Build
The second match went in a completely different direction.
This time, the goal became a Moon build.
Where Burn had been all about immediate tempo, Moon required more patience.
The early stages weren’t nearly as convincing.
There were close fights.
There were losses.
There was even a match against a player named Lord Rimmeru where things went so badly that conceding early was simply the sensible way to save time.
But Moon has something Burn doesn’t:
serious scaling potential.
How the Moon Build Starts
The second run began with fairly general pieces rather than instantly producing a perfect Moon board.
Items such as Novice Blade and Ruby Knife helped get things moving.
Ruby Knife had some potential because the setup included low-cooldown items and Multicast interactions.
The early objective wasn’t necessarily to have the complete Moon composition immediately.
It was to survive, level, and eventually start finding the pieces that would let Moon scaling take over.
That distinction is important.
Don’t throw away an entire run because your ideal build isn’t complete on Day 2.
Use temporary items.
Win what you can.
Transition when the shop allows it.
Early Moon Can Feel Pretty Bad
The difference between the two builds becomes obvious almost immediately.
Burn wants to be ahead.
Moon can tolerate being behind temporarily.
Once the Moon direction started forming, there was an expectation that a few fights might be lost while the scaling developed.
That’s exactly what happened.
Poison was particularly uncomfortable.
However, one of those fights also demonstrated why slower fights aren’t always completely terrible for scaling setups.
The opponent wasn’t killing the build particularly quickly, which created more time for damage to build on important items.
The fight was lost, but it wasn’t a hopeless blowout.
A few additional scaling triggers could potentially have changed the result.
Lapis Lazuli Helps the Moon Transition
Finding Lapis Lazuli marked an important point in the Moon setup.
At that stage, the run could start properly scaling Moon items rather than simply using generic early-game pieces.
And this is where you shouldn’t become obsessed with your final board.
Some of the Moon pieces you’re scaling now may not survive until the tenth win.
That’s fine.
If they’re strong for the next several rounds, they’re doing their job.
You can replace them later when better Moon pieces appear.
Don’t Be Afraid to Sell a Bad Purchase
Shortly after committing resources, one purchase was immediately regretted and sold to fund a level-up.
It feels terrible.
But that’s better than keeping a bad item because you’re emotionally attached to the gold you already spent.
That gold is gone.
The only question that matters now is:
Does keeping this item make my current run better?
If the answer is no, sell it.
Bad purchases happen.
The bigger mistake is allowing one bad purchase to dictate the next five decisions.
Day 8 Multicast Slot Matters
During the Moon run, the Multicast slot becomes available on Day 8.
That’s an important timing point when planning the middle portion of your run.
Instead of treating every day independently, you can start thinking ahead about when important systems become available and whether your board can exploit them.
If you’ve got something that becomes significantly stronger through Multicast, reaching that timing window can create a meaningful spike.
Pandora’s Box: Greedy but Potentially Huge
Then came one of the riskier decisions of the run:
Pandora’s Box.
The problem with a greedy item is simple.
It’s fantastic if it actually gets to do its thing.
It’s completely useless if your opponent kills you first.
The run squeezed Pandora’s Box into the board knowing there was a legitimate possibility it would never activate.
It did.
And the payoff was enormous.
That successful trigger allowed the build to reduce cooldowns across the board, creating a significant boost.
There was an alternative option involving Crit Chance and Crescent Shot, but the cooldown reduction was chosen instead.
This is exactly the kind of risk/reward decision that makes Oaken Tower interesting.
When to Remove Pandora’s Box
Don’t fall in love with the gamble.
Once Pandora’s Box had provided its value and the run progressed, it was removed.
That’s the correct mentality with temporary utility pieces.
An item can be responsible for saving your run and still deserve to be sold three rounds later.
The board has limited space.
Eventually, every slot needs to contribute toward actually winning fights.
When Pandora’s Box stops being worth the greed, get it out.
Moonveil and Scaling the Moon Board
Moonveil became another part of the developing Moon setup.
The run already had one Level 2 Moonveil and considered building another.
Upgrading also mattered because the scaling improved at Level 2, making further investment worthwhile.
At this point, the composition was increasingly focused around Moon-tagged pieces rather than the temporary early-game board.
That’s generally when the build begins feeling coherent.
You’re no longer just surviving until you find Moon items.
You’re actively improving a Moon engine.
Be Careful With Crit-Dependent Moon Items
Not every Moon item automatically belongs in a Moon build.
One of the Moon options was considered relatively weak because the board didn’t have enough Crit Rate to properly support it.
That’s an important lesson.
Tags aren’t synergy by themselves.
An item saying “Moon” doesn’t automatically make it better than everything else simply because you’re playing Moon.
Read what it actually does.
If its effect relies heavily on Crit and your board has almost no Crit Chance, another Moon item may produce significantly more value.
The same principle applies to Burn, Dragon, Poison, or anything else.
Build around interactions, not labels.
Crescent Bow and Crit
The Crescent Bow was specifically mentioned in relation to Crit.
With enough early Crit investment, it can become much more attractive.
Without that support, it may be one of the less appealing options for the setup.
So if you find Crescent Bow early and already have a way to scale Crit, you can consider leaning harder into that interaction.
If you don’t?
Don’t force it simply because you’re playing Moon.
The Moon Bow Can Become Ridiculous
Later in the run, the bow became one of the standout pieces.
Getting it to Level 2 was especially attractive because it gains +1 bonus damage per trigger.
Written down, +1 doesn’t sound outrageous.
In practice, an effect that repeatedly triggers and continues scaling can turn a small numerical bonus into something much more significant.
That’s why evaluating Oaken Tower items purely by the number printed on one line can be misleading.
You need to consider how often the effect happens.
One damage once?
Nothing special.
One additional damage over and over throughout an entire fight?
Now we’re talking.
Level 10 Can Be Worth It for the HP
As the Moon run approached its final fights, leveling to Level 10 became attractive partly for the extra HP.
This is another example of tempo still mattering even when you’re playing a scaling build.
You might desperately want another item upgrade.
But if another chunk of HP is what allows your scaling engine to survive long enough to activate, that HP effectively becomes offensive power.
Dead builds don’t scale.
Sometimes the boring defensive upgrade is what allows all your exciting items to actually work.
Moon Build Quick Strategy
The Moon approach can be summarized like this:

Use decent temporary items early rather than waiting for a perfect Moon board.
Level efficiently so stronger pieces enter your shop pool.
Transition into Moon once pieces such as Lapis Lazuli begin appearing.
Start scaling Moon items even if they aren’t necessarily part of your final composition.
Prepare for the Day 8 Multicast slot.
Use Pandora’s Box if your board can survive long enough for the payoff.
Replace Pandora’s Box after extracting its value.
Invest in Moonveil and other useful Moon scaling pieces.
Don’t automatically buy Crit-dependent Moon items without Crit support.
Look for important bow upgrades and repeated-trigger scaling.
Use higher levels and additional HP to give your scaling time to work.
Keep upgrading until the build begins overwhelming opponents.

Unlike Tempo Burn, Moon isn’t necessarily trying to dominate from the first fight.
You’re building toward the moment where your scaling becomes too much for opponents to handle.
Tempo Burn vs Moon: Which Build Is Better?
They’re almost opposite philosophies.
Tempo Burn is better suited to players who want to establish a strong early board and start collecting wins immediately.
Moon is more appealing if you’re comfortable sacrificing some early consistency in exchange for stronger scaling.
Burn basically says:
“I’m stronger than you right now, so let’s fight.”
Moon says:
“Give me a few more rounds.”
The danger with Burn is failing to close the run before late-game opponents overtake you.
The danger with Moon is dying before your scaling ever becomes relevant.
Your preferred playstyle should determine which sounds more comfortable.
Why Flexible Builds Usually Beat Hard Forcing
The Burn game highlighted the biggest trap perfectly.
Once you’ve decided you need a particular item, every shop without that item feels wrong.
That’s how you end up rerolling away enormous amounts of gold.
Oaken Tower rewards having a plan, but that doesn’t mean ignoring what the game gives you.
If you’re offered an extremely strong alternative synergy, consider it.
If you’re holding mediocre pieces because you’re waiting for one specific legendary combination, reconsider.
If you’ve rolled five times without improving your board, maybe the sixth reroll isn’t suddenly going to solve everything.
Knowing when to stop chasing is part of playing the game well.
Economy Is Part of Your Build
Gold isn’t separate from combat.
Your economy determines how many opportunities you get to improve your board.
The Season 2 runs demonstrated several ways to extract additional value, including:

Saving free rerolls for better shop levels
Selling unnecessary pieces
Using Value Potion to increase sell value
Exploiting Goblet-related economy
Taking straight gold when alternative rewards aren’t useful
Avoiding expensive upgrades that don’t immediately help
Selling speculative items when the expected synergy never appears

The goal isn’t to finish with the most gold.
The goal is to convert gold into enough power to reach 10 wins.
There’s a difference.
Don’t Ignore the Opponent’s Tempo
Some builds are clearly preparing for late game.
That’s your invitation to punish them.
Other opponents already have enormous scaling engines online.
That’s when your own board needs to be ready.
The Burn strategy took advantage of players who weren’t immediately strong.
The Moon build had to endure the opposite situation, losing some fights while its scaling came together.
Learning to recognize where you sit relative to the current lobby is arguably more useful than memorizing a single build.
Season 2 Ranked Climbing
The broader goal for Season 2 was climbing beyond the previous peak and eventually reaching the top 100.
After starting around rank 763, the two successful runs helped push the position to roughly 655.
The first completed run awarded +54, and both demonstrated that early-season climbing doesn’t necessarily require perfectly solved meta builds.
That’s worth remembering.<br
