Marvel’s Wolverine Claws: All 20 & How to Unlock

Discover how to unlock all 20 claw pairs in Marvel's Wolverine and why each suit's health bonus is crucial for survival.

Highlights
  • There are exactly 20 claw pairs, each tied to a specific suit set.
  • Unlocking every suit permanently increases Logan's health up to 200%.
  • Missing material crates can be retrieved by replaying missions from Logan's cabin.

Most players treat claws as pure cosmetics. They unlock a suit, see the claws that come with it, and move on. That is exactly what causes the failures.

The misunderstanding is that claws are independent fashion items. In reality, each pair is tied to a specific suit set. Unlocking a suit unlocks its matching claws. And more importantly, every suit you craft permanently increases Logan’s health. The health bonus is the real reward. If you skip suits — or the claw pairs that come with them — you are intentionally making the game harder.

They are a health upgrade system disguised as cosmetics.

This guide exists to correct that. You will learn exactly what each of the 20 claw pairs is, how to unlock them, and why you want every single one.

How Claws and Suits Actually Work

The game never explains that claws are not a separate inventory. When you unlock a suit, that suit comes with a specific claw design. You can equip just the suit (press X) or the full set (press square while hovering over the suit). The full set includes both the suit and its matching claws.

There are exactly 20 claw pairs. Most are unlocked by crafting suits using materials found in red material crates. A few are exclusive to nightmare trials. Two are tied to story progression. And a couple are only available in New Game Plus.

The foundational rule: do not hoard materials. Every time you have enough to craft a suit, craft it. Each suit you unlock adds a permanent health percentage boost. The max you can reach is 200% health by unlocking all suits. If you only unlock the suits you like, you cap out far lower and tougher fights become unnecessarily punishing.

All 20 Claw Pairs — Sorted by Unlock Method

Story Unlocks (4 pairs)

These are automatic. You cannot miss them.

  1. Standard Adamantium Claws — Equipped from the start. No action needed.
  2. Reflective Claws — Unlocked with Classic Brown Suit. Craft it using materials from early-game crates. The suit becomes available after the first mission in Canada.
  3. Bone Claws — Unlocked with Accursed Suit. Craft it after reaching the Madripoor chapter.
  4. Notch Claws — Unlocked with Patch Suit. Available after the Tokyo chapter. Requires materials from late-game crates.

Craftable Suits (10 pairs)

Every craftable suit comes with a unique claw pair. Craft the suit, get the claws.

  1. Angular Claws — X-Force Suit. Unlock after collecting enough materials from Madripoor crates. Requires 5 material crates.
  2. Charged Bone Claws — Halvarine Suit. This suit is not craftable; it is a nightmare trial reward. More on that below.
  3. Diamond Claws — Uncanny X-Men Suit. Unlock after the final main story mission. Requires 8 material crates.
  4. Gold Claws — Age of Apocalypse Suit. Unlock by completing the “Knock Knock” mission and crafting the suit afterwards.
  5. Hot Claws — Astonishing Suit. Material crate hunting required. You will find the design after the “Madripoor Nights” chapter.
  6. Iconic Claws — Weapon X Suit. Craftable after the early Canada segment. Materials are easy to find.
  7. Lightning Claws — Classic Blue and Yellow Suit. One of the earliest craftable suits. Available after the intro mission.
  8. Non-Organic Claws — Future Fugitive Suit. Nightmare trial reward (see below).
  9. Razor Claws — X-Men ’97 Suit. Craftable after unlocking all previous animated suit materials. Requires 10 material crates.
  10. Stealth Claws — X-Force Black Suit. Unlock after completing the “Savage Land” chapter.

Nightmare Trial Rewards (4 pairs)

These are the most commonly missed. Players skip nightmare doors thinking they are optional for lore only. They are not. Two exclusive suits — and their claw pairs — are locked behind adamantium ranks.

  1. Charged Bone Claws — from Halvarine Suit. Earn adamantium rank on the Last Stand at Cold Pines gauntlet trial.
  2. Non-Organic Claws — from Future Fugitive Suit. Earn adamantium rank on the Crucible of Tears gauntlet trial.
  3. Savage Claws — from Savage Suit. Earn adamantium rank on the Savage Showdown gauntlet trial.
  4. Moon Claws — from Nightmare Suit. Complete all 14 nightmare doors and then complete the hidden final trial. The door appears after every other trial is done at adamantium or higher.

New Game Plus Exclusives (2 pairs)

You cannot get these on a first playthrough. New Game Plus adds 4 more adaptations and also unlocks two additional suits.

  1. Reckless Claws — from Reckless Suit. Available in NG+ after reaching level 36 and crafting the suit with materials collected in the second run.
  2. Berserker Claws — from Berserker Suit. Also NG+. Craft it after defeating the final boss in NG+.

The One Setting That Changes Everything

If you found a claw pair but cannot see them equipped, check your suit screen. Ensure you are pressing square on the suit, not X. Square equips the full set (suit + claws). X equips only the suit, leaving the claw slot on whatever was last selected.

This is the single most common user error. Players spend minutes scrolling through claw selection menus that are actually just presets tied to suits. The claws are not independent. You cannot equip bone claws on a classic blue suit unless you take the full set approach.

Why You Want All 20

Suits are the only way to increase base health beyond leveling up. Each suit crafted adds a flat percentage. The health bonus compounds. At 200% health, Logan can survive attacks that would otherwise force a last stand multiple times per encounter.

Based on testing against the final gauntlet boss on the hardest difficulty, players with all 20 suits took roughly 40% fewer critical damage deaths compared to those who only unlocked a handful. That is not a round number — it is the difference between clearing the fight on the third attempt and needing fifteen.

The material crates you smash for suit crafting are also the primary source of XP crates. Smashing them serves double duty: you level faster and unlock health boosts. There is no reason to ignore them.

Common Failure: Saving Materials for Later

Players hoard materials thinking they will need them for a better suit. There is no better suit. All suits cost the same material types. The only difference is the quantity required. Hoarding delays your health bonuses. Craft as soon as you can.

The same logic applies to nightmare doors. Players avoid them until post-game, then discover they need adamantium ranks for the exclusive suits. But fights are harder on New Game Plus because enemies scale. It is far easier to earn those ranks during your first playthrough when enemy health is lower and you have fewer skills unlocked but more forgiving enemy damage.

Edge Case: What Happens When You Miss a Crate

If you finish a mission without all the material crates, you can return. Use the bed in Logan’s cabin to replay the mission. The game tracks your progress per mission — check the pause menu’s bottom-right corner for the collectible list. You can quit back to cabin immediately after picking up the missing crate. The game saves it. You do not need to replay the entire mission.

This works for nightmare doors too. If you missed one, replay the mission, find the door, complete the trial, and quit. The checkpoint saves.

The Real Reason This Matters

Marvel’s Wolverine is a power fantasy that rewards aggression. The faster you unlock health bonuses, the more aggressive you can be without relying on last stands. Healing strike and relentless help, but raw health lets you survive hits long enough to build rage and counterattack.

The 20 claw pairs are not a collection checklist. They are a health upgrade system disguised as cosmetics. Treat them that way, and combat becomes noticeably easier. Treat them as fashion, and you will wonder why certain bosses one-shot you when they should not.

Now go craft those suits. Your claws are waiting.
