AION 2 Enhancement Guide: Weapons, Guard, Belt, Amulet

Master the four enhancement tracks in AION 2 to maximize gear score and unlock high-level areas faster.

AION 2 enhancement guide explaining the differences between weapons, guard, belt, and amulet upgrades.
Highlights
  • Upgrading the Spirit Forged weapon and guard directly raises combat power by boosting attack and defense.
  • A green belt at +10 gives 23 gear score, but morphing to gold jumps it to 65.
  • Players who reach gear score milestones early in the week benefit from better loot tables in reset content.

Hitting level 45 in AION 2 drops you into a gear score system that decides everything you can touch. The abyss requires 1,000. Vaskilia Sky Island needs 1,400. Ferocious Horn waits at 2,100. And the only consistent way to climb those thresholds is enhancement — upgrading your weapon, guard, belt, and amulet with the limited stones and scrolls the game gives you.

Most guides tell you to enhance everything evenly. That’s wrong. The four enhancement tracks work completely differently, cost different resources, and matter at different points in your progression. The belt alone uses its own scroll type from strongholds, while the amulet demands a feather collection mini-game that most players ignore. Understanding which item to push when saves you days of farming.

What Enhancement Actually Does in AION 2

Enhancement raises two separate numbers: gear score (item level) and combat power. The blue number on your character sheet is combat power. The larger number is gear score. Dungeon entry requirements check gear score. Group finder and damage checks lean on combat power.

Your weapon and guard enhance differently from your belt and amulet. The weapon and guard — your “Spirit Forged” set from leveling — give both attack and defense as you push them, which raises combat power directly. The belt and amulet give almost pure gear score. They’re the cheap filler that lets you hit the next dungeon threshold without touching your damage pieces.

The math matters more than it seems. A green belt at +10 gives 23 gear score. Morph it to blue and it jumps to 36. Gold hits 65. That’s a 42-point swing from one item, which is the difference between being stuck at 1,380 and walking into Vaskilia.

Weapons and Guard: Your First +10 Items

You get two unique items from the main story quest line: the Spirit Forged weapon and the Spirit Forged guard. These are your enhancement priority from the moment you hit 45. Take both to +10 through the enhancement menu, because the success rate is 100% all the way to +10. No fail. No break. Just stones and Kina.

Beyond +10, the curve gets risky. The success rate drops, and you start burning enhancement stones that you’ll need for your belt and amulet morphs. Top players stop at +10 on these two pieces and don’t push further until they’ve replaced them with Draupnir or Vakron gear.

Mana stones slot into the same enhancement menu. Put one on every piece you own — weapon, guard, armor, accessories. You don’t need specific stats yet. Green qualities give roughly 2 gear score per stone versus 1 for white, but the real value here is the raw item level. One stone on each of your 10+ slots adds up to a meaningful chunk toward your 1,000 breakpoint.

A Theo Stone on your weapon or guard also contributes gear score. Socket whatever you have. The stats matter later, but the score matters now.

Belt and Amulet: The Grind That Never Ends

This is where AION 2 diverges from every other enhancement system you’ve played.

The belt enhances with Noble Belt Enhance Scrolls, which drop from strongholds. You’ll need an absolute ton of enhancement stones on top of the scrolls, and the whole process is designed to be slow. Run every stronghold on your faction’s map, then do the same on the opposing faction’s land through the space-time rift. That rift opens every 3 hours and drops you into the enemy zone, where the strongholds and sealed dungeons at the higher levels hand out roughly 2,500 enhancement stones per run.

The amulet works completely differently. You collect feathers scattered around the map, then turn them in at the Verturon Monolith to raise your residence level. Hit level 30 at the monolith and you unlock the scrolls needed to enhance the amulet all the way up. It’s a slow burn, but the feather spots are fixed and you can route through them during normal questing.

Once your belt or amulet hits +10, you don’t stop. You go to the substance morph menu, unequip the item, and morph it to the next rarity. Green to blue, then blue to gold. Each morph roughly doubles the gear score contribution. That single jump is often enough to push you past a dungeon requirement you’ve been stuck on for days.

Where to Get Enhancement Stones

The daily dungeon is your consistent source. Run it once a day and you get scored on how many mobs you kill. Max reward is 10,000 enhancement stones. You won’t hit that on your first run, but even half of it funds a meaningful burst of enhancement attempts.

The space-time rift is the real winner. Every 3 hours, starting at 7 a.m., a rift spawns on the map. Up to 500 players can enter, and it teleports your faction to the opposing faction’s territory. The sealed dungeons there reward 2,500 stones each — five times what your home map gives. Plus you get six quests from the Shugo NPCs inside. Coordination matters, because the rift window is only 1 hour, and the strongest players will be PvPing while you’re trying to farm.

Nightmare content is another source. The white boss versions you can fight multiple times, and challenge levels reset weekly. The trade shop in Nightmare sells Deva crystals and Clash runes, which feed directly into gear score.

Progression Milestones: What to Enhance First

700 to 1,000 Gear Score

Finish every green quest on the map. Do all sealed dungeons — they show as question marks like strongholds do. Each sealed dungeon grants Deva crystals, which you spend on your Deva board. Every point spent on the board adds gear score. This is the fastest single source of early item level.

Grab two Clash runes, one from side quests and one from the trade shop growth tab. Each Clash rune is 60 gear score. That’s 120 points right there, taking you from roughly 700 to 820.

Enhance your Spirit Forged weapon and guard to +10, add mana stones to everything, and you’ll land around 1,000. The last quest in your main story line requires exactly 1,000 gear score.

1,000 to 1,400 Gear Score

You finish the MSQ and get the bracelet. This bracelet stays with you for months, so take it to +10 or +11 immediately. Enhancing it gives both gear score and attack/defense, which feeds combat power. It’s the highest-value enhancement target in your entire kit.

Your next stop is Draupnir via expedition exploration mode. Loot it three times — you don’t need to finish the dungeon three times, just open the loot box. This gives you a pity box after the third loot, which lets you select a piece of yellow gear, item level 54. Take that yellow piece to +5 and add mana stones. Any other drops along the way are bonuses.

Shugo Festival participation gives you festival tokens, and the shop sells more Deva crystals. The crystal prices scale: 50, then 100, then 200, then 400. Buy out the tiers that make sense for your score gap.

1,400 to 1,600: The Vakron Jump

At 1,400, you can enter Vaskilia Sky Island. Run it in exploration mode and loot three times for the pity chest. Same routine as Draupnir — you want the guaranteed yellow gear selection, not the lottery drops.

Some players skip Draupnir entirely and go straight to Vakron. That’s the greedier path. Vakron drops accessories and all weapons at item level 70, which is a bigger jump than the earlier gear. Top streamers report hitting 1,653 by day two using this route, with only about 18 hours of playtime.

The catch is the Vakron guard. To get it from the pity system, you need to run the dungeon twice — the gear exchange voucher requires two completions. Most optimizers recommend skipping that and taking the guaranteed gear pieces instead. Guard will come from crafting later.

1,600 to 1,800: Arcana Cards

This stretch doesn’t involve equipment enhancement at all. Transcendence unlocks the Arcana card system, which has five slots. Each green card grants 40 gear score. Fill all five and you gain 200 score, taking you from 1,600 to 1,800.

Blue cards give another 20 per card. Yellow cards go higher but require significantly more grinding. The strategy from 1,600 to 2,000 is essentially Arcana card replacement, not gear enhancement. Save your stones for the 2,000+ bracket.

The Transfer System: Don’t Waste Your Enhancements

Once you start swapping yellow gear from Draupnir and Vakron, you’d think you need to dissolve and recraft everything. You don’t. The game has a transfer system that moves your enhancement level and soul bindings to new gear.

Here’s the workflow, using a specific example. You’re farming Ferocious Horn and a pair of level 70 gloves drops. Your current gloves are +10 with soul bindings. Instead of dissolving the old pair, open the substance morph menu, go to transfer, and feed the old gloves into the new ones. The +10 moves over automatically, and the soul bindings come along.

The cost is one transfer crystal at the same tier, or two if the new gear is higher level. You get these crystals by morphing all the unwanted yellow gear you’ve been hoarding. That level 36 yellow junk you’ve been vendoring? Morph it. Each piece converts into transfer materials that let you move your hard work forward.

This is why top players farm world bosses. Immortal Garchua spawns every 12 hours and drops level 70 items — the helmet alone justifies the trip. Garua can also drop artifacts you can sell for a fortune. The yellow gear pile feeds both your transfer system and your wallet.

Common Enhancement Mistakes

Breaking your Clash runes. Clash runes are rare and each one is 60 gear score. Enhancement success above +1 is only 80%, and a fail deletes the rune entirely. You get four from side quests. People talk about taking them to +2 or +3. It’s not worth the risk until you have replacements queued. The trade shop sells one extra, but that’s a stopgap.

Burning enhancement stones on green gear. Those first Draupnir pieces are meant to be stepping stones. Take them to +5, maybe +6, and stop. The stones you pour into taking green gear to +10 are stones you can’t spend on the belt morph to gold. Crafted gear at the endgame is the only set worth pushing past +15.

Ignoring the weekly dungeon cap. You can run dungeons 10 times per week without spending cube energy. Do it 10 times today and you’re fine. Wait until tomorrow, and you’ve locked yourself out of dungeon runs for the rest of the week. The achievement for those 10 runs gives a statue with real stats.

Socketing superior mana stones early. You get one superior mana stone early on. Throw it on your MSQ bracelet and hope for two yellows. Everything else gets lesser or intermediate stones. Wasting your only superior stone on a piece you’ll replace in three days is a mistake that follows you for weeks.

When to Stop Enhancing

The hard rule: dungeon and expedition gear stops at +15. Crafted gear goes to +20.

Amplify stones come from fragments and are the gatekeeper for +15 to +20 enhancement. They’re account-bound and slow to accumulate. Using them on a Vakron chest piece that you’ll eventually replace with crafted gear is throwing progress away.

Crafting becomes the endgame at this stage. The highest gear score items in the game come from crafting, not drops — level 86 expedition gear can reach 94 through crafting, then 102 beyond. Start with your necklace, then a ring, then the weapon, based on what materials you’ve saved.

Your dungeon pieces at +15 with yellow mana stones and soul stones will carry you while the crafted gear catches up. The transition period lasts weeks, and the +15 blue pieces you push will outdamage a +10 yellow piece you just picked up.

The cost curve shifts dramatically past +15. Between +15 and +20, success rates drop below 50%, and each failure consumes the amplify stone on top of regular enhancement stones. This is where you need to plan around your server’s economy — crafted materials like Kina and Keenah are the real constraint, not the stones themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find enhancement stones quickly?

The space-time rift every 3 hours gives the best returns: 2,500 stones per sealed dungeon in the opposing faction’s territory. The daily dungeon scores you up to 10,000 stones for maximum mob kills. Nightmare bosses and stronghold runs provide steady supplemental income.

Why can’t I enhance my belt or amulet?

The belt requires Noble Belt Enhance Scrolls from strongholds plus enhancement stones. The amulet needs scrolls unlocked by reaching residence level 30 at the Verturon Monolith, which you earn by turning in feathers found around the map. If you’re missing either resource, check which prerequisite you’ve skipped.

Can I move my enhancement level to new gear?

Yes. Use the substance morph menu’s transfer tab. Morph unwanted yellow gear into transfer crystals, then use those crystals to move your enhancement level and soul bindings onto new gear. One crystal for same-tier transfers, two if the new item is a higher level.

The Timing Advantage Most Players Miss

Enhancement resources reset on a weekly cycle — the 10 free dungeon runs, the nightmare challenge levels, the transcendence stage clear rewards. Players who hit their gear score milestones early in the week can farm the reset content at a higher difficulty with better loot tables. A player who reaches 1,400 gear score on Monday gets fundamentally more value from the same weekly dungeon cap than someone who lands there on Saturday. That compounding effect is the real difference between the top streamers and everyone else, and it’s why the early enhancement decisions matter more than raw currency totals. Plan your stone spending around the weekly reset, not your hourly progress.
