New Unique Items and Gameplay Improvements in Avowed Patch 1.5

Patch 1.5 didn’t just bring class adjustments, but also a series of unique items spread across different regions of the game, allowing players to experiment with varied builds from the very beginning. In addition, various quality of life and balancing improvements further refine the experience.

New Unique Items by Region

One of the focuses of the update was to expand the diversity of special equipment, especially for those who want to set up specific strategies right at the start of the adventure. Check out some of the highlights:

  • Dawnshore:

  • Emerald Stair:
    • ExclusiveTwo-Handed Axe, Pistol, Bow and Robe.
    • Highlight: The “Greening Gun” can apply accumulated poison with precise shots.
  • Shatterscarp:

  • Galawain’s Tusks:

    • Highlight: The “Spear of Lost Dreams” can have a “dragging” effect on enemies when hitting with charged blows.

These items not only add variety, but also encourage exploration and the testing of new combinations of skills and equipment.

The new unique items added in specific regions of Avowed offer unique strategic possibilities, encouraging players to explore every corner of the game world. In Dawnshore, for example, the Dawn Arquebus stands out for its area damage potential, ideal for taking on groups of enemies. In Emerald Stair, the Green Pistol introduces poison mechanics, allowing builds focused on accumulated damage. These additions not only enrich the variety of equipment, but also encourage experimentation with new combinations of weapons and skills.

Balance improvements

Obsidian has listened to feedback from the community and adjusted mechanics that were unbalanced:

  • More Challenging Enemies:
    • Some enemies now use skills that were previously exclusive to players, such as Returning Storm and Blizzard.
    • Physical and magical barriers have been added, requiring adaptable tactics (e.g. using spells against physical shields).
  • Adjustments to Damage and Skills:
    • Fire Blights: Reduced damage and accumulation of fire against the player.
    • Storm Sworn’s Thunderous Shot: Fewer ricochets (3 → 2) and reduced shock damage (50 → 25), but more chance to stun.
    • Ring of Fortune: Critical hit bonus increased (5% → 10%).
  • Critical bug fixes:
    • Progression problems: Killing Xaurips early no longer blocks missions.
    • Combat: Enemies now react correctly when entering combat, and broken blocks no longer regenerate instantly.
    • Spells: Abilities such as Spirit Lance are no longer blocked when using bows.

Patch 1.5 brought significant adjustments to the combat balance, refining the experience both for specialized builds and for facing enemies. One of the main focuses was to rebalance skills that were considered excessively powerful or ineffective, such as reducing the damage of Fire Blights and adjusting the behavior of Storm Sworn’s Thunderous Shot. These changes aim to promote a more organic progression, where each build choice has strategic weight without making certain approaches mandatory or completely unfeasible.

The enemies have also received special attention, gaining new abilities that make them more challenging and unpredictable. It’s now possible to encounter opponents who use skills that were previously exclusive to players, such as Blizzard and Returning Storm, requiring tactical adaptation during combat. In addition, the introduction of physical and magical barriers adds an extra layer of depth to the combat system, encouraging players to diversify their arsenal and approaches as the situation demands.

Corrections to progression and combat mechanics have eliminated recurring frustrations reported by the community. Problems such as enemies blocking attacks immediately after having their guard broken or skills being unduly interrupted have been resolved, providing a more fluid and fair battle flow. These refinements, combined with the numerical adjustments to equipment and skills, create a more polished and balanced game ecosystem, where mastery of the mechanics is consistently rewarded.

TAA (Anti-Aliasing) is now a separate option, allowing you to disable upscaling without losing visual quality.

Arachnophobia Mode: Fixed bug where dead spiders kept models visible.

Interface and Maps:

Personalized markers on the map for personal notes.

Improved Enemies, Quest Fixes and Endgame Impact

Avowed ‘s Patch 1.5 not only added content, but also redefined challenges with smarter enemies, adjustments to problematic quests and changes that directly impact endgame strategies. Let’s explore these topics in detail:

Improved Enemies and New Tactics

Obsidian has raised the difficulty level by allowing enemies to use skills that were previously exclusive to players, requiring immediate adaptation:

  • Stolen” skills:
    • Returning Storm (enemies create electrical storms that chase the player).
    • Tanglefoot (roots that immobilize for seconds).
    • Blizzard (areas of ice that accumulate damage and reduce speed).
  • Physical and magical barriers:
    • Enemies can now conjure shields that block only physical attacks or only spells, forcing quick weapon/strategy changes.
    • Example: A magical shield requires melee attacks, while a physical shield requires spells or projectiles.
  • Adjustments in Behavior:
    • Enemies are no longer “stuck” in investigation mode after losing sight of the player.
    • Thalla’s Stomp Attack: The area indicator now corresponds to the actual damage (previously it was less than the visual effect).

Avowed ‘s Patch 1.5 introduced significant changes to enemy behavior, making them more strategic and unpredictable. Now, in addition to using skills that were previously exclusive to players, such as Blizzard and Returning Storm, they have physical and magical barriers that require them to adapt quickly during combat. These barriers force players to switch between weapons and spells, adding an extra layer of tactical depth. In addition, subtle adjustments, such as the synchronization between attack area indicators and actual damage, ensure that challenges are fair and coherent, without frustrating surprises.

The corrections to missions and dialogs also had a direct impact on the narrative experience, eliminating obstacles that broke the immersion. Problems such as dialogs not starting, missing objective markers or duplicate items have been resolved, allowing for fluid progression. In the endgame, these changes, combined with balance adjustments, have redefined viable builds, encouraging players to experiment with new combinations of skills and equipment. The result is a more polished game, where every decision – from the choice of equipment to the approach to combat – has a greater bearing on the outcome of the adventure.

Corrections to Quests and Dialogs

Several bugs that hindered progression have been resolved, including:

  • Critical Missions:
    • “One Last Drink”: Problem with exchanging drinks during the quest has been fixed.
    • “Shadows of the Past”: The diary now correctly updates the objectives.
    • “Nature vs Nurture”: Goal markers no longer disappear.
  • Dialog and NPCs:
    • Conversation with Marius in the Grinning Balarok now starts as planned.
    • Liviu enters combat immediately after specific dialogs (before there were delays).
    • Malthea is no longer misgendered in Russian.
  • Items and Progression:
    • Unique items in Solstice Keep cannot be bought in duplicate after narrative events.
    • Gjeda’s Journal (in Polish) does not repeat identical entries.

Patch 1.5 has brought essential adjustments to several quests that previously presented progression problems or broke the player’s immersion. Quests such as “One Last Drink” and “Shadows of the Past” now work as planned, with objectives updating correctly in the journal and interaction mechanics operating flawlessly. What’s more, dialogs that previously stalled or didn’t start – such as the encounters with Marius in Grinning Balarok – have been fixed, ensuring that the narrative flows naturally, without artificial interruptions.

Subtle but impactful bugs were also fixed, such as the duplication of unique items after specific events or repeated diary entries in certain languages. These details, although small, were responsible for immersion breaks and unnecessary frustration. With these improvements, players can focus entirely on the experience, without technical concerns that previously interfered with exploration and engagement with the story. The attention to detail demonstrates the team’s commitment to delivering a cohesive and polished world.

Impact on Endgame and Meta Builds

The balance changes and new items directly affect high-level builds:

  • Affected Builds:
    • Poison/Bloodlust: Passives such as Deadly Poison and Bloodlust have been buffed, but foulness to these effects has been added to spirit enemies(Ekidian Spirits).
    • Critical: The increased Ring of Fortune bonus (10%) benefits bow and fast weapon builds.
    • Tank: The Vanguard passive (chance to ignore damage) gains value in situations with multiple enemies.
  • Relevant Nerfs:
    • Wands with “Bounce”: The damage of charged attacks has been reduced.
    • Storm Sworn’s Thunderous Shot: Less ricochets and damage, but more useful for stunning.
  • Endgame tips:
    • Combine Shadow Step (Ranger) with weapons that apply Mark to reset cooldowns quickly.
    • Fighters can abuse Adrenaline and Reviving Exhortation in groups.

Patch 1.5 brought significant changes that redefined the balance of builds in the endgame, encouraging players to rethink their long-term strategies. Skills such as Shadow Step for Rangers and Adrenaline for Fighters have gained prominence, offering new possibilities for combinations that were previously unfeasible. These changes not only diversified the meta, but also made certain approaches, such as builds focused on poison or critical hits, more consistent against the game’s toughest challenges.

The introduction of new unique items in specific regions has also played a crucial role in redefining the endgame, allowing players to access powerful equipment earlier in their journeys. This has made it possible to create specialized builds from the middle stages, which can be improved and adapted as the player progresses. Adjustments to skills and passives, such as increasing the critical hit bonus of the Ring of Fortune, have complemented these changes, making certain strategies more competitive compared to previous versions of the game.

The patch addressed balancing issues that affected the viability of certain builds in the endgame, such as reducing the damage of specific skills and fixing bugs that allowed disproportionate combinations. These adjustments ensured that no strategy became overly dominant, promoting a healthier variety of options for players. As a result, Avowed ‘s endgame has become more challenging and diverse, requiring greater experimentation and adaptation on the part of the community.

New Ranger and Fighter skills

We’ve added new skills and passives to the Fighter and Ranger tree to complete the classes compared to the Mage tree.

To accommodate these new additions, all your Envoy’s skills have been refunded at no cost.

Ranger skills:

  • Shadow Step – Step into the afterlife, reappearing behind your enemy. The enhancements will mark the target, decreasing its damage reduction and resetting the cooldown of Shadow Step after striking a killing blow.
  • Fan of Daggers – Throw a set of poisoned daggers that hit several enemies and cause poison to build up. Upgrades increase the number of daggers thrown and slow down and interrupt enemies.
  • Smoke bomb – Throw a smoke bomb, creating a cloud that interrupts your enemies while you dodge backwards out of the way. Upgrades increase damage and cause Elemental Accumulation that corresponds to your currently equipped throwable.
  • Chilling Surprise – Prepare a trap to be triggered by an approaching enemy. The trap causes high ice buildup to nearby enemies after detonation. Upgrades increase the number of traps that can be set at a time and reduce the cost of Essence.

Ranger’s liabilities:

  • Concussive Shot – Shooting at an enemy’s Weak Point causes them to receive more Stun from melee weapons for the next few seconds.
  • Sniper – Deals increased Weak Point damage that increases with the number of consecutive Weak Points you deal several seconds apart.
  • Deadly Poison – The Poisoned status deals increased damage to enemies. Upgrades increase the amount of Poison Buildup you cause.

Fighter’s skills:

  • Driving Kick – A powerful kick that breaks through enemy blocks, dealing damage and launching enemies into the air. Upgrades increase damage, add Explosive Damage and create an area of effect.
  • Barbaric Smash – Deals a massive blow to your enemy. If this blow kills the enemy, absorb a percentage of your current stun to release on the next enemy you hit.
  • Deep Breath – Breathe deeply, immediately recovering 100% of your Stamina and temporarily reducing the Stamina cost of your actions by 50%. The upgrades reduce the recharge time, increase the cost of temporarily reducing stamina to 100% and allow you to refill your breath meter while underwater.
  • Revived Exhortation – Revives an ally from a great distance and grants them Temporary Health. Enhancements reduce the Essence cost and heal you and all current allies by a small amount.

Fighter liabilities:

  • Dual Wield Mastery – Your dedicated training has unlocked a more powerful Special Attack to perform on stunned enemies while dual-wielding melee weapons.
  • Adrenaline – When below 50% Health, your Attack Damage increases by 25%. When you’re below 25% Health, your Attack Damage increases by another 25% and your Stability increases by 20%. The upgrades will mean that the first lethal blow you receive will leave you with 1 life and make you invulnerable for a few seconds.
  • Bloodthirst – The Bleeding status deals increased damage to enemies. Upgrades increase the amount of Bleed Accumulation you cause and add additional Attack Damage to enemies with Bleed.
  • Vanguard – Gain the chance to negate the damage of an incoming attack. This chance increases with the number of enemies targeting you.

New exclusive items
