The mid-season refresh for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has arrived with update 1.095, delivering what Activision describes as its most substantial content drop to date across Multiplayer, Zombies, and a completely reimagined Warzone experience. The patch, which went live on March 11, introduces five new maps, two new weapons, a major Zombies expansion, and the launch of Black Ops Royale—a fundamental overhaul of the battle royale mode that removes traditional loadouts and Buy Stations.
Multiplayer Receives Map Variety and New Gauntlet Mode
The update significantly expands the Multiplayer map rotation with five new battlegrounds. Two are brand-new experiences: Torque, a 6v6/2v2 map themed around a high-speed pursuit, and Mission: Peak, a large-scale 20v20 Skirmish map set in winding medieval streets. The update also brings back three fan-favorite maps from previous Black Ops titles. Grind, the iconic skatepark from Black Ops 2, returns alongside Cliff Town, a re-envisioned version of the “Yemen” map, now set as a cliffside town. Perhaps the most anticipated return is Firing Range, which joins the Black Ops 7 rotation featuring new Wall Jumps integrated into its classic layout.
New Weapons and Equipment
Players have two new firearms to master. The Voyak KT-3 is a full-auto assault rifle unlocked through the Altitude Tactics event. It boasts excellent handling and a unique digital readout that displays the distance to your target, but trades off with a slower fire rate and moderate-to-high recoil. The Swordfish A1 is a 4-round burst marksman rifle with unrivaled accuracy, available through the Counter Skies Event Pass. Its prestige attachment, the Penta Burst, adds a fifth shot to each burst. New weapon attachments include the Echo 12 Backlash Launcher Kit, which converts a weapon to fire bouncing explosive projectiles, and the MXR-17 ANVL Conversion, which offers a very fast starting fire rate that becomes easier to control the longer it’s fired.
Fresh Gameplay Modes and Features
A new competitive mode, Gauntlet, pits two six-player teams against each other in a round-robin of five different game modes: Domination, Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint, Team Deathmatch, and a new sub-mode called Roulette. Roulette centers around a powerful, risky Akimbo Hand Cannon that can explode in the user’s hands. The classic Infected mode also returns, now featuring Mutant Injection Power-Ups. A new Scorestreak, the Lockshot smart pistol, can lock onto and eliminate multiple targets with a single trigger pull.
Ranked Play receives quality-of-life improvements, most notably a new “Stay With Team” feature for players Diamond rank and below. This allows matchmade teammates to easily party up and continue playing together after a match concludes. The update also includes numerous weapon tuning adjustments, with significant nerfs to the SG-12 shotgun’s damage ranges and pellet spread to curb its dominance at mid-range.
Zombies Expansion Introduces Paradox Junction and Endgame Systems
The Zombies experience receives its largest expansion of the season with the new map Paradox Junction. The story continues as the crew, now operating under the watchful eye of The Warden, is stranded beyond time. The map features a new Main Quest with unique rewards, including a new Wonder Weapon skin for the Blundergat. A new enemy, the Rad-Hound, presents a relentless threat, exploding with radioactive innards upon death.
New Wonder Weapons and Progression
The update introduces the Blundergat and its upgraded form, the Sundergat. This ornate, quadruple-barreled shotgun rips through the undead with ease, and when upgraded, its projectiles become so potent they can “blast the souls” out of enemies. A new Rare GobbleGum, Turncoat, allows players to charm up to five zombies to fight on their behalf.
Revamped Endgame and Exotic Crafting
Endgame content is dramatically expanded. After defeating a Strike Boss in a Nightmare Zone, squads can access a Glitch Fracture—an off-map, corrupted data section featuring a new Glitch Boss. Defeating this boss grants one of five new Nightmare Skills, such as Nova Strike (melee attacks that generate electrical fields) or Phoenix Burst (a low-health explosion that fully restores health).
Most significantly, an Exotic Fabricator system is introduced. Obtained by defeating a Strike Boss, this device allows players to upgrade any Loadout or Field Acquisition weapon into a full Exotic Weapon through three upgrade tiers, adding exotic rarity, damage, a utility bonus, and a random exotic effect. A reroll system lets players perfect their exotic weapons over time.
Warzone Transforms into Black Ops Royale
The most radical changes arrive in Warzone with the launch of Black Ops Royale on March 12. This is not a simple playlist update but a fundamental philosophical shift for the battle royale, rooted in the Black Ops universe.
Core Philosophy and Map Changes
The new mode’s core tenet is in-match progression only. Loadouts and Buy Stations have been completely removed. Instead, power is built during the match by finding base weapons and upgrading them via lootable Weapon Attachment Kits. The mode takes place on the Avalon map, originally from Black Ops 7’s Endgame, now optimized for battle royale with adjusted water levels and new land connections.
New Movement and Loot Systems
Movement is enhanced with default Wingsuits replacing parachutes and the Wall Jump ability from Omnimovement. A new Grappling Hook tactical equipment offers rapid repositioning. The loot economy is overhauled; cash is gone, and standard Supply Boxes are replaced by Guild Supply Boxes (reusable) and high-risk Cradle Supply Boxes found in dangerous gas zones.
Progression is driven by engaging in Activities, which are not shown on the Tac Map initially and must be discovered. These include destroying Surveillance Drones, cracking Guild Strongboxes, or capturing Relay Antennas. High-risk Cradle Breaches create zones where players can fight a Mangler elite enemy or unlock a Mystery Box by eliminating zombies.
New Equipment, Perks, and Weapon Archetypes
The arsenal is refreshed with new equipment like the Cymbal Monkey lethal (attracts then detonates), the Sensor Dart tactical, and the Bubble Shield field upgrade. Killstreaks include the robotic D.A.W.G. ally and the Psych Bomb. A new perk system features temporary, lootable Consumable Perks like Awareness, Brawler, and Medic, which last for a set duration.
The weapon system is rebuilt around Archetypes. Each weapon class has 2-3 archetypes (e.g., CQB, Recon, and Covert for Assault Rifles) that determine its upgrade path. Finding Attachment Kits upgrades a weapon through Common to Legendary rarities, each granting incremental class benefits and significantly improved recoil control.
Weapon Balance and Seasonal Events
Alongside the new content, update 1.095 delivers extensive weapon balancing across all modes. In Warzone, several SMGs like the Kogot-7 and Razor 9mm receive buffs to their damage ranges and fire rates, while the REV-46 is nerfed with reduced damage ranges and slower ADS speed. The Peacekeeper Mk1 assault rifle and MK.78 LMG receive attachment and base stat buffs to improve their viability.
Live Events and Challenges
The update kicks off several in-game events. The Altitude Tactics event (March 17 – April 2) rewards the Voyak KT-3 assault rifle. The Counter Skies Event Pass runs concurrently, with a free track offering the Swordfish A1 marksman rifle and the Echo 12 Backlash Launcher Kit. A Ranked Series Event lets players compete on a 50-player ladder within their rank for exclusive emblems, while the Paradox Junction Event offers GobbleGum rewards for Zombies players.
Update 1.095 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 represents a pivotal moment in the game’s lifecycle, particularly for Warzone. By dismantling the loadout-centric meta and introducing a high-risk, activity-driven progression loop in Black Ops Royale, the developers are betting on a return to the unpredictable, loot-driven tension that defined earlier battle royale experiences. Combined with a substantial infusion of content for core Multiplayer and a deep, system-driven expansion for Zombies, this mid-season update aims to refresh the gameplay loop for all types of players and set a new direction for the franchise’s future.
