You know what artifacts do. Craft them in the Gap, equip three at a time, swap them mid-fight if the slot isn’t in use. That part is straightforward. What isn’t obvious is which combinations break the game wide open — and which ones only look good on paper.
The artifact system in Control Resonant is deeper than most guides let on. Passive bonuses stack, but more importantly, they let you fix specific weaknesses in your build without respeccing. The right artifact loadout can turn a boss you’ve been stuck on into a five-second execution.

The Artifacts That Actually Matter
Stop hoarding materials for five different artifacts. You only need three or four core pieces, and the rest are situational swaps. Here are the ones worth your time.
Lost Prescription – This one sells for 1,000 source at the downtown vendor. It adds a 30% chance to restore a small amount of health on a perfect dodge. That’s not a typo — one in three perfect dodges gives you HP back. Pair it with the Restorative Dodge talent, and you’ve got two independent health triggers per perfect dodge. Against bosses with predictable attack patterns, this alone keeps you alive through phases where healing pickups run dry.
Bout Guard – A tradeoff you want to make. +50% power recovery, but Dylan takes 20% more damage. Power recovery is the bottleneck for ability-spam builds. With Bout Guard, you can chain three Volatile Anomaly summons before the first one expires. The extra damage taken is brutal if you’re not dodging constantly. But if you’ve mastered perfect dodge timing (and you brought Lost Prescription), the trade flips in your favor: more power means more summons means more distractions means fewer hits landed on you.
Molding Bar – Costs 1,000 source at the park vendor. Grants immunity to the infected status effect and increases damage and falter against mold enemies. The catch? It cuts your max health by 50%. This artifact is useless in non-mold zones. But in the park or against the Park Resident boss, it’s the difference between a twenty-minute slog and a three-minute execution. The health penalty forces you to play perfectly, but infected build-up was what killed most attempts anyway. Trade one problem for another you can actually solve.
Coffee Cup – Heals you slowly out of combat. Most players ignore this because it does nothing in a fight. Here’s the non-obvious use: equip it while exploring, then swap to a combat artifact right before you engage enemies. The health regeneration continues for a moment after swapping. You effectively get free healing between fights without spending source on consumables or backtracking to vendors. Every zone has at least one health upgrade point hidden near a fast-travel door — Coffee Cup lets you stretch that between encounters.
Barbed Blade – Health regeneration near any summon. Unlocked from the “Party Won’t Stop” side quest in the West Incursion Zone. If you’re running a summon build (Volatile Anomaly, Growth, Spike), this artifact turns your turrets into mobile heal stations. Each summon counts. Drop three Growth allies, and you’re regenerating health from three sources simultaneously. The regen isn’t large per tick, but it stacks.
Synergies That Change Your Combat Loop
The real power comes from pairing artifacts with your combat abilities and talent choices.
Dodge-Loop Build: Lost Prescription + Bout Guard + Face Mask (reduces status effect build-up). You’re always dodging. Bout Guard gives you power for abilities. Lost Prescription heals on perfect dodge. Face Mask protects against the status puddles you can’t always avoid. This loadout works with any primary weapon. The play style: dodge through everything, build power, execute the faulted enemy, extend dominance.
Summon Spam Build: Bout Guard + Barbed Blade + Coffee Cup (swap to combat artifact). Drop three summons at the start of a fight. Barbed Blade keeps regenerating you. Bout Guard lets you re-summon before the first expires. Use the remaining power for Ignite or Inferno. Coffee Cup is the exploration placeholder — swap to Molding Bar or a damage artifact when the fight gets real.
Boss-Specific Cheese: Molding Bar (against mold bosses), or Wetstone + Fork + Trusty Spanner (pure damage stacking). The damage trio is expensive to craft and situational. But against the Unknown Resident (has a timer mechanic), every second matters. These three together push your damage per hit high enough to skip entire phases.
Crafting Efficiency: Where to Spend Resources
Artifacts consume crafting materials you could otherwise use for weapon upgrades. Here’s the priority order:
- Lost Prescription – 1,000 source. No rare materials. Craft it first. It helps from Central onward.
- Bout Guard – Requires some rare drops from Hiss heavies. Farm the West Incursion Zone if you’re short.
- Molding Bar – Only craft if you’re about to enter the park zone. Otherwise delay until you need it.
- Barbed Blade – Only for summon builds. If you didn’t pick Growth or Volatile Anomaly, skip it.
Don’t recycle artifacts unless you’re absolutely sure. Each recycle gives back a few Echoes and some source, but you can’t get the artifact back in the same playthrough. The Echoes resource is used to craft new artifacts, but you’ll naturally collect enough from world feat completions. Recycling an artifact for Echoes is never worth it unless you mis-crafted and need the slot.
One more thing: the vendor in each zone stocks different materials. The Central vendor sells Edible Globs (used in early weapon upgrades). The West Incursion vendor sells Aberrant Fragments. If you’re short on materials for an artifact, check all vendors — they restock after each resonant cycle. A cycle resets their inventory, meaning you can buy limited materials multiple times per playthrough.
The artifact system rewards preparation over reaction. Know which boss is coming. Slot the artifact that counters it. Swap back to your general loadout after. That’s the loop that separates a clean run from a death spiral.
- Which artifact should I craft first in Control Resonant?Craft Lost Prescription first as it costs only 1,000 source and provides a 30% health restore on perfect dodge, helping from Central onward.
- What is the hidden synergy of Coffee Cup?Coffee Cup heals slowly out of combat and the regeneration continues briefly after swapping to another artifact, giving free healing between fights.
- When should I use Molding Bar?Equip Molding Bar in the park zone against mold enemies and the Park Resident boss for immunity to infected and increased damage, despite halving health.
- How does Bout Guard improve ability-spam builds?Bout Guard increases power recovery by 50%, allowing you to chain multiple summons, but requires perfect dodging to offset the 20% extra damage taken.
