Nioh 3 Update 1.04 Adds Free Armor, Major Weapon Balancing, and Over 100 Bug Fixes

By Central

Team Ninja has deployed a substantial new update for Nioh 3, delivering a mix of free content, significant gameplay tweaks, and a vast number of fixes targeting everything from weapon balance to mission progression bugs. Update 1.04.00, released on March 11, 2026, addresses long-standing player feedback on reward structures, high-level equipment farming, and multiplayer incentives, while also refining the combat flow across the game’s extensive arsenal.

Free Content and Core System Enhancements

The update introduces two commemorative armor sets, “Million Thunder Warrior Armor” and “Million Thunder Ninja Garb,” distributed for free to celebrate the series surpassing ten million copies sold and Nioh 3 itself reaching one million. Beyond this celebratory gear, several key systems have been overhauled to improve the player experience, particularly for those engaging in endgame activities and cooperative play.

Improved Rewards for Multiplayer and Endgame

A primary focus of the patch is enhancing the viability of multiplayer and high-difficulty farming. The amount of Glory earned upon clearing missions in multiplayer has been increased, providing a more substantial incentive for cooperative play. Furthermore, after clearing the “General’s Journey” mode, players will now have a chance to obtain equipment with higher “+” values at an increased rate, making the pursuit of top-tier gear less reliant on random chance.

Quality-of-Life and User Interface Upgrades

Numerous quality-of-life improvements have been implemented. The “Soul Matching” process has been adjusted to reduce the material cost required when matching an item’s “+” value to one already in the player’s possession. The “Blacksmith” menu now features an exclamation mark on tabs containing newly craftable items. Perhaps most notably, players can now disable the auto-replenishment of usable items and enable an auto-lock feature for equipment with rare special effects, preventing accidental dismantling or selling of valuable loot.

Targeted Gameplay Adjustments

Specific gameplay tweaks aim to smooth out combat and ability usage. The ninjutsu skill “Fire Breath” and several other onmyo and ninjutsu skills have been adjusted to be easier to hit, especially on uneven terrain. Camera behavior when locking onto the boss “Onryoki” has been improved for better visibility. Additionally, bosses have been adjusted to prevent them from relentlessly targeting a single player in multiplayer sessions, a common point of frustration. The set bonus “One Against a Thousand Soldiers” has seen its “Close Combat Attack Debuff Extension” effect reduced as it was more powerful than intended, while the application rate for its “Arrow/Bullet Hit Increases Enemy Damage Taken” effect has been increased.

Weapon-Specific Balancing and Fixes

The bulk of the patch notes are dedicated to meticulous adjustments and bug fixes across every weapon class. These changes are designed to correct unintended behaviors, improve responsiveness, and ensure skills function as described.

Samurai Weapon Refinements

Katana: Fixed issues with the “Sogaki” skill not reflecting Tempering bonuses and the “Oboro” and “Mikage” skills causing an unavoidable guard break when failing a parry. The “Oboro Ni” skill had its camera and hit detection issues resolved.

Dual Swords: Corrected a bug preventing Skill Arts from being executed after a dodge-attack and fixed problems with the “Frost Wind” and “Falling Leaf Sword: Continuous” skills.

Odachi: Addressed problems with the “Soaring Bird” skill’s Ki Pulse, weapon attribute application on “Snow Moon Flower: Reduced,” and an issue preventing guard-cancels while “Boar Twist” was equipped.

Spear: Fixed the “Spear Transformation” skill being deflected by guards and adjusted the “Crying Mountain: Extend” skill’s mobility when not locked on.

Axe: Improved the hitbox of the “Stone Mallet” skill and fixed multiple bugs related to the “Spinning Slip” parry follow-ups and the “Great Tree Fall: Swift” skill.

Fists: Made aerial “Finishing Blows” easier to land and fixed bugs with the “Morning Shadow Kick,” low-stance dodges, and the “Valley Wind” skill.

Switchglaive: Adjusted several skills, including “Transform: Cut,” for easier use, fixed aerial “Finishing Blows,” and resolved major bugs where the Mystic Arts “Transform: Blazing Prairie” and “Transform: Raging Torrent” lacked guard properties and could not be used during Living Weapon.

Ninja Weapon Tuning

Staff: Fixed a bug where light attacks would continue instead of executing a Skill Art and an issue allowing double Finishing Blows.

Claws: Corrected a parry failure after being deflected and fixed input bugs with the “Holly” and “Torso Thrust” skills.

Kusarigama: Fixed a bug allowing the ninjutsu “Quail Hop” during Living Weapon activation and adjusted excessively high Ki costs for several skills.

Ninja Blade: Resolved multiple issues with aerial Skill Arts, including input problems and unintended movement with the “Kite Cross” skill.

Hatchet: Fixed the “Tile Crusher” skill incorrectly allowing a counter against grab attacks.

Tonfa: Addressed a significant bug where canceling certain skills into the Mystic Art “Divine Mow” would deal damage without Ki cost, alongside other skill linkage and input issues.

Comprehensive Bug Fixes Across Missions and Systems

Update 1.04 tackles a staggering array of specific bugs that could halt progression, break mechanics, or cause visual and functional errors. Key fixes ensure a smoother experience across all game modes.

Mission and Sub-Mission Progression

Critical bugs in several missions and “Bizarre Tales” (奇譚) have been resolved. These include fixes for “The Burning Spirit Tree in the Ice Capital,” where reducing “Minamoto no Yoritomo’s” Ki to zero could soft-lock the mission; “The Battle of Futamata Castle,” which could cause Hattori Hanzo to disappear; and multiple “Bizarre Tales” such as “Seeking the Strong Flame,” “Inquiring of an Old Medicine,” and “The Calamity That Comes to Lake Hamana,” which had specific conditions that could block advancement. The “Scroll of the Wise” mission “Invading Like Fire” also received a fix for a pathing block related to Takeda Shingen’s defeat location.

Equipment, Effects, and General Gameplay

A wide spectrum of systemic bugs has been cleared. These include fixes for the set bonuses “Grudge Overshadowing the World” and “Leader of Peace,” incorrect application of the “Malodor” debuff, and issues where certain special effects would shorten the duration of “Nurturing Talismans.” A major bug where Samurai armor could roll Ninja-exclusive special effects has been corrected, with affected gear being converted to appropriate Samurai effects. The update also fixes drop issues for the “Yamamba’s Kitchen Knife” smithing text and certain enemy weapons, and corrects pricing errors in the “Soul Matching” system.

Platform-Specific Improvements

PlayStation 5

The primary fix on PS5 addresses a bug where accumulated military prestige for clans in the faction war was not being added correctly.

Steam (PC)

PC players receive several dedicated enhancements, including improved stick sensitivity recognition, the ability to copy appearance setting codes to the clipboard, and a new system setting to toggle the HUD display for close-range weapon switch buttons. A function to pause the game when a controller is disconnected has also been implemented. Fixes target issues like graphical noise at specific resolutions, controller recognition problems with certain PC setups, and a bug where anisotropic filtering settings were not being applied correctly.

This extensive update demonstrates Team Ninja’s ongoing commitment to refining the Nioh 3 experience, directly responding to community reports with adjustments that affect both moment-to-moment combat and long-term engagement. By smoothing out rough edges in weapon mechanics, repairing broken quests, and adding meaningful quality-of-life features, Update 1.04.00 strengthens the foundation of the game, ensuring that the challenging journey through its beautifully brutal world remains as fair and engaging as intended.
