Infiniteloop, the developer behind the popular desktop companion application Desktop Mate, has announced the next downloadable content character for its platform. The new DLC will feature the beloved Vocaloid Gumi Megpoid, marking her first appearance in the Desktop Mate ecosystem. The add-on is scheduled for release on Steam on April 2, 2026, with a price point set at $14.99, consistent with previous full-size character releases. The product page is already accessible on the Steam store, allowing fans to wishlist the item ahead of its launch.

The upcoming Desktop Mate DLC is based specifically on Gumi’s appearance from VOCALOID6, utilizing the character design created by illustrator Nou. This ensures a modern and authentic representation of the virtual singer for users’ desktops. According to the official announcement, the DLC will include a variety of animations that bring Gumi to life. These animations will showcase her singing and even depict her enjoying a slice of cake, adding playful and endearing moments to the desktop experience.

A key feature highlighted is the use of Gumi’s “voice.” While the announcement did not specify if particular songs will be referenced within the DLC’s functionality, it confirms that her characteristic vocal elements will be integrated. Furthermore, a distinctive interactive element has been confirmed: clicking on the Desktop Mate Gumi character will trigger a “carrot” sound effect. This playful nod aligns with Gumi’s associated themes and adds a layer of user interaction beyond passive observation.

To provide a visual preview, Infiniteloop and Internet Co have released the first screenshots of the Desktop Mate Gumi DLC. These images offer a clear look at her design, animations, and how she will appear on a user’s screen. Notably, there is no dedicated trailer video currently available that demonstrates her animations, voice clips, or sound effects in action. This leaves some aspects of the DLC’s auditory experience to be discovered upon release.

For those unfamiliar with Gumi’s vocal style or seeking an example of her sound, the announcement included a reference to the song “Matryoshka.” This track is a collaboration by Kenshi Yonezu (under the name Hachi), featuring Gumi and the iconic Hatsune Miku. A link to the song on YouTube was provided, serving as an auditory benchmark for the character’s potential vocal output within the Desktop Mate environment.

Desktop Mate has cultivated a diverse library of DLC characters since its inception, ranging from recognizable video game icons to charming Sanrio mascots. However, a significant portion of its add-on content is dedicated to Vocaloid characters from various production companies. This focus has made the application a digital hub for fans of virtual singers.

Many of the most famous Vocaloids from Crypton Future Media have already been incorporated as Desktop Mate DLC. The ubiquitous Hatsune Miku, along with several of her variant designs, is available. Other Crypton stars like Megurine Luka and the duo Kagamine Len and Rin also have their own desktop companion packages, allowing fans to populate their workspace with these popular characters.

The platform has also expanded to include Vocaloids from other producers. Characters from TOKYO6 ENTERTAINMENT and VOCALOMAKETS, such as Kizuna Akari, Natsuki Karin, and Yuzuki Yukari, have joined the Desktop Mate roster. This inclusivity broadens the appeal of the application to wider segments of the Vocaloid fan community.

The introduction of the Megpoid Gumi DLC represents a new milestone, as it is the first character from Internet Co., the company that owns and produces the Gumi Vocaloid, to be featured in Desktop Mate. This addition further diversifies the producer representation within the application’s catalog and caters specifically to Gumi’s dedicated fanbase.

Desktop Mate itself is a PC application, available for download and use on desktop computers. It serves as a lightweight, interactive program that places animated characters on the user’s screen, often reacting to system events or user inputs in charming ways. The upcoming Gumi Megpoid Vocaloid DLC will be released as an add-on for this existing application.

The launch is firmly set for April 2, 2026. At that time, users who own the base Desktop Mate software can purchase the Gumi DLC for $14.99 via the Steam platform. Once installed, Gumi will reside on their desktop, complete with her specified animations, voice snippets, and interactive sound effects, joining the growing family of virtual companions available for digital workspaces.

The steady expansion of Desktop Mate’s character roster, particularly through Vocaloid DLC, underscores the application’s niche as a personalized desktop enhancement tool for fans of specific digital cultures. The addition of Gumi, a long-standing and beloved figure in the Vocaloid scene, fills a notable gap in the collection and responds to ongoing demand from her supporters. As release dates approach and new screenshots or details emerge, the community’s anticipation will likely focus on how faithfully Gumi’s vibrant personality is translated into this new, interactive desktop form, offering both visual charm and auditory delight during everyday computer use.
