This major patch delivers a substantial expansion of a core player resource alongside a comprehensive suite of quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and graphical enhancements across all platforms. From a radical increase in private storage capacity to refined movement controls and performance optimizations, this update addresses numerous community requests and technical issues. This article details the complete Crimson Desert update 1.02 patch notes, covering the new features, gameplay adjustments, and fixes that have just arrived.

Crimson Desert Update 1.02 Patch Notes: Storage Expansion and Content

The headline feature of this update is a massive expansion of private storage capacity. Depending on your progress with the Greymane camp expansion, the capacity of your private storage can now be increased from a base of 240 slots up to a maximum of 1000 slots. The camp expansion consists of five stages, each adding incremental storage: the first through fourth expansions each add 100 slots, while the final expansion adds a substantial 360 slots, culminating in the new 1000-slot maximum.

Beyond storage, new content includes an Abyss Nexus added in Pailune. The visibility of explosive barrels has been improved when using the “Light Reflection” skill or shining a lantern on them. Changes were made to the designs of certain gimmick monsters, and one new armor set and helmet for cats has been added. A previous improvement from Patch 1.01.00, allowing restored Abyss Skybridge Gates to be teleported to, has been formally noted.

Several content-related bugs have been addressed. An issue with combat missions where comrades would not return until the timer expired if completed early has been fixed. Problems within the Abyss involving puzzle state resetting when viewing node details, characters becoming invisible if an artifact was obtained before a cutscene, and the unintended reset of Healing Force Palm and Aerial Force Palm skills when resetting all skills have all been corrected.

Controls and Combat Improvements

A significant new customization option has been introduced: “Movement Controls.” Found in Main Menu > Others > Settings > Input > Movement Controls, it offers two distinct styles. “Basic” controls involve holding the sprint key to accelerate, while “Classic” controls require repeatedly pressing the sprint key to accelerate. Stamina consumption for mounts has been adjusted accordingly: Basic consumes stamina at set intervals when holding the key, while Classic consumes stamina each time the key is pressed.

General combat and mobility have been polished. The conditions for using the Abyss Nexus have been improved, allowing use even while moving slightly, except when mounted or using Flight, with further improvements for mount travel planned. The Flight skill can now be activated when holding the jump key mid-air. Jump input responsiveness after an attack has been improved, and an Escape key guide is now displayed when affected by elemental status effects.

Specific Combat Fixes

Multiple specific combat bugs have been resolved. Fixed issues include: the Focus state not canceling when using Aerial Roll during flight; weapons not being drawable inside Demeniss Castle under certain conditions; some bosses teleporting too far away during combat; the ‘Double Boost’ horse ability not activating properly; parry not activating properly during ‘Focus’ with a two-handed sword equipped; the camera turning toward nearby enemies when aiming with a tool; certain interactions being unavailable with specific tools equipped; and repeatedly pressing the sprint key allowing a horse to run at maximum speed regardless of its stats.

Quest, NPC, and Dialogue Fixes

Critical quest progression blockers have been eliminated. In Chapter 6, an issue where progression became unavailable after defeating a boss following a save/load under certain conditions has been fixed. Another fix addresses progression halting if a related item was sold before starting the ‘A Rumor Fueled by Greed’ quest. In Chapter 11, a problem where the Inserted Key could disappear from the bag, preventing related quest progression, has been resolved. Additionally, an issue where certain quest-related NPCs would not appear has been corrected.

UI Fixes and Improvements

The user interface has received numerous refinements. The item use notification in the bottom-right corner now allows direct item selection upon use. Shop UI prioritizes the display of sellable items. Key guide positions and content in the bottom-right corner have been reorganized for better visibility. The Save Game and Load Game menus are now separated, with save slot number labels added.

Various UI bugs have been fixed: the minimap scale resetting while riding a mount at maximum speed; the mouse cursor disappearing in the storage menu on keyboard/mouse; item movement not working properly when entering the horse inventory menu in certain circumstances; certain menus occasionally not responding or appearing visually awkward; crashes occurring when entering or using some UI/menus; and the “Stow Weapon” key guide is now properly displayed while in combat when mounted.

Graphics, Settings, and Platform-Specific Enhancements

New Visual Options and General Improvements

A new “Headgear Visibility” option has been added to Settings > Language & Gameplay, with choices of Always Show, Show in Combat, Hide in Cutscenes, or Always Hide. The developers also noted that a feature to hide weapons shown on the character’s back is planned for a future update.

General graphical improvements include enhanced FSR upscaling quality on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. On PC, FSR SDK 2.2 has been applied, FSR Frame Generation quality has been improved, and several issues with upscaling technologies have been resolved. These fixes address GPU memory increase when DLSS RR was configured, improved GPU load and shimmering when FSR-RR/DLSS-RR was enabled, foliage and other elements not rendering properly in ray-traced reflections with those technologies, screen top flickering with DLAA and HDR enabled, and a rendering issue affecting the character’s face indoors on Low graphics preset.

Console-Specific Updates

For PlayStation 5 Pro, the Upgraded PSSR Sharpen feature has been applied, improving image sharpness, and Upgraded PSSR Native AA has been applied to Quality Mode. On Xbox, an issue where V-Sync behavior would change when pressing the Home button has been fixed, and a 4K upscaling option has been added to Performance Mode on Xbox Series X.

Performance, Stability, Localization, and Other Fixes

Across PC, console, and Mac platforms, several stability, performance optimization, and crash issues have been addressed. Localization errors have been fixed and quality improved for game advice and other text across all languages.

Miscellaneous fixes include: resolving an issue where certain walls in Corridors of the Void were missing; improving sound so that its position changes with the camera perspective; fixing the weapon not being visible when using the ‘Stab’ ability while ‘Unarmed’ was equipped as a secondary weapon; updating the UI to allow license information viewing in the Credits; correcting low audio volume when an NPC won in minigames like Duo; and fixing distorted background audio in certain locations and situations.

This extensive Crimson Desert update 1.02 patch fundamentally enhances the player experience by dramatically increasing storage capacity, offering greater control customization, and resolving a wide array of technical and progression issues. The inclusion of platform-specific graphical upgrades and systemic polish demonstrates Pearl Abyss’s commitment to refining the game post-launch. Given the scale of changes, players should anticipate possible follow-up adjustments, but this patch represents a substantial step forward in stability and feature completeness for Crimson Desert.

Pearl Abyss has deployed update 1.02.00 for Crimson Desert, a significant release known on consoles as version 1.000.186.
