Netflix is expanding its One Piece universe beyond the acclaimed live-action adaptation and original anime with a unique animated project. The streaming giant has announced a two-part Lego One Piece special, slated for a September 29, 2026 debut. This original story, animated in the signature Lego aesthetic, promises a side-story adventure starring a fan-favorite character. The announcement, accompanied by a first trailer, coincides with the steady release of Lego sets based on the franchise, creating a multimedia synergy for fans. This article delves into the details of the special, including its narrative focus, confirmed voice cast, the broader landscape of Lego One Piece products, and the interconnected world of Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece across manga, anime, and live-action formats.

The core announcement confirms a two-part animated special titled Lego One Piece. It will premiere globally on Netflix on September 29, 2026. Unlike a direct adaptation of existing manga arcs, the special will feature an original story, allowing for a fresh adventure within the established world. The animation style will mirror the look of the physical Lego sets based on the live-action show, which began appearing in 2025, ensuring a consistent and playful visual identity.

The initial teaser trailer and official description reveal the special’s narrative anchor. It will function as an OVA and omake story centered on the sharpshooter Usopp. In the preview, he grandly introduces himself as “Captain Usopp the Brave.” Accompanied by his fellow Straw Hat Pirates, he promises to recount his great deeds. The announcement also mentions Syrup Village, Usopp’s hometown, hinting that it may serve as a key setting for this side-story. Notably, the voice of Usopp will be provided by Jacob Romero, who portrays the character in Netflix’s live-action adaptation, marking a direct link between the two projects.

The Netflix listing for the special offers further confirmation of the involved characters through its accompanying artwork. It displays minifigure renditions of both Usopp and Chopper, the crew’s doctor. This visual confirms that both characters will play significant roles in the Lego One Piece adventure, potentially setting up a dynamic duo for this original tale.

The animated special is part of a larger collaborative effort between the One Piece franchise and Lego. A growing collection of physical Lego sets based on the series is already available, primarily drawing inspiration from the first season of the live-action adaptation.

Currently, five primary Lego sets recreate iconic events and locations from the live-action show’s inaugural season. Additionally, one BrickHeadz set exists, which features the flamboyant pirate Buggy the Clown. These sets allow fans to build and display scenes from the East Blue saga in the distinctive Lego style.

The next major set slated for release is a detailed replica of the Gum-Gum Fruit (Devil Fruit). This set, priced at $69.99, is scheduled to arrive on August 1, 2026. It includes a innovative design feature: the top of the fruit can be removed to reveal a diorama scene inside depicting Luffy finding the mythical Devil Fruit. The set also comes with minifigures of Luffy both as an adult and as a child, adding a nostalgic element to the build.

The Lego One Piece project exists within a vast and thriving ecosystem of One Piece content across multiple platforms. This interconnected accessibility ensures fans can enjoy the saga in various forms.

The original source material, the manga by Eiichiro Oda, is officially translated and distributed outside Japan by Viz Media. The long-running anime series is available for streaming on both Crunchyroll and Netflix, offering both subtitled and dubbed versions for international audiences.

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece has been a significant success, with its first two seasons currently available on the platform. Production on Season 3 is officially in the works, continuing the adaptation of the beloved story into a new medium. The live-action series also directly influences the Lego line, as most current sets are based on its visuals and sequences.

The announcement of the Lego One Piece special marks a creative expansion of Netflix’s investment in the franchise, blending the whimsical, buildable world of Lego with the high-seas adventure of One Piece. By crafting an original story around Usopp and utilizing the voice talent from the live-action series, it creates a bridge between formats. This special, premiering in late 2026, will join a growing merchandise line of Lego sets, including the upcoming Gum-Gum Fruit replica, and sit alongside the readily accessible manga, anime, and ongoing live-action seasons. This multifaceted approach solidifies One Piece’s position as a cross-generational property capable of engaging fans through traditional storytelling, physical creativity, and innovative animated experiments.

Netflix is expanding its One Piece universe beyond the acclaimed live-action adaptation and original anime with a unique animated project.
