Most players approach this fight expecting to grind through endless mold summons until something gives. That’s wrong. The fight is actually easier the more aggressively you push the boss itself, and harder the longer you let it sit back and spawn. The hardest part of this fight isn’t the adds — it’s the moment the boss stops spawning them and changes its behavior entirely.

Here’s exactly how to beat the Collective Resonant in Control Resonant, including what to bring, what to avoid, and the specific phase transition that catches everyone off guard.

Where to Find the Collective

The Collective is one of the optional Resonant bosses, located in the Park zone. You can reach it after clearing the main story objectives in Central and unlocking access to the Park. The boss arena is marked on your map once you activate the zone’s radar.

The Park zone enemies are generally higher level than Central by about two levels on average, so check your Build Power before heading in. If enemies outside the arena already have skulls, you’re not ready. Go level up zones first.

What Makes This Fight Different

The Collective is a summon boss. It doesn’t fight you directly in the way the Deserter or the Artist do. Instead, it hangs back and spawns waves of mold enemies — the small spitter types and the larger armored mould carriers. The boss itself has a health bar, but trying to damage it while ignoring the adds is a fast way to get overwhelmed.

The counterintuitive part: the boss stops summoning if you keep its attention on you and deal steady damage. The fight’s difficulty spikes not from the adds themselves but from a scripted phase shift that happens at roughly 60% and 30% health. In these phases, the Collective spawns a single elite mold enemy while also releasing a toxic cloud that fills the arena over time. This cloud does infected buildup constantly.

Most players die in the cloud, not from the enemies.

Recommended Loadout Before the Fight

The single most important thing: fire damage. Mold enemies are weak to fire across the board. Every piece of your loadout that can deal fire damage should be prioritized.

Slot

Recommendation

Why

Primary Form

Strike or Glaive

Fast attacks to apply ignite status

Secondary Form

Crush (Hammer)

Breaks armor on elite mold, builds falter fast

Combo Finisher

Split Pivot

Applies burning status effect

Combat Ability

Inferno or Ignite

Fire damage melts mold enemies — mandatory

Artifact

Molding Bar (if available)

Grants immunity to infected buildup at the cost of 50% max health

If you don’t have the Molding Bar artifact, buy it from the Park vendor for 1,000 Source. It’s sold right at the ice cream truck in the Park zone. The health penalty is steep, but infected immunity is more valuable in this fight than a full health bar you can’t use because you’re constantly taking status damage.

If you haven’t killed the Factory Resident in Central yet, do that first. The Factory Resident unlocks the fire combat abilities (Inferno or Ignite). Without fire damage, the Collective fight becomes drastically harder — you’ll be dealing raw damage to enemies with mold resistance, which is effectively a damage penalty.

The Two-Phase Strategy

Phase 1: 100% to 60% Health

The boss starts spawning small mold spitters in groups of three to four. Kill them quickly to build your Dominance meter. Once you trigger Dominance, your damage output doubles for 8 seconds — use that window to hit the boss directly.

Dodge pattern: the spitters’ attacks are telegraphed by a visible pooling of green liquid on the ground. Don’t stand in it. The boss itself has a ranged attack that shoots a slow-moving mold projectile. This can be dodged with a lateral dash. Do not try to outrun it — the projectile tracks slightly and has more range than you think.

Priority: kill the small adds first, then hit the boss while Dominance is up. Repeat.

Phase 2: 60% Health (The Shift)

The boss stops spawning small adds and spawns one elite mold carrier. This enemy has a full armor bar and deals high melee damage. Use the Crush hammer’s charged attack to break the armor, then switch back to your primary to apply fire.

Simultaneously, a green cloud starts expanding from the center of the arena. This cloud does not disappear. It grows slowly over the rest of the fight. You must fight from the edges.

If you have the Molding Bar artifact equipped: the cloud no longer matters to you. Focus entirely on the elite. If you don’t: you need to keep moving and avoid the cloud entirely, which means you’ll be fighting from increasingly cramped spaces.

Do not kite the boss around the arena — this only spreads the cloud faster as the boss moves its spawn point. Stay in one quadrant and fight there.

At 30% health, the boss spawns another elite and the cloud pulse speeds up. This phase is identical to Phase 2 but faster. Stay aggressive. The boss does not have a third summon wave. If you survive this phase, you’ve won.

The Biggest Mistake Players Make

Saving your combat abilities for “when things get bad.” By the time things get bad, you’re already in the cloud and panicking. Use Inferno or Ignite the moment the first elite spawns. The fire damage kills mold adds faster than anything else in your kit, and the faster they die, the faster you get health drops from Dominance kills.

Also: don’t use the Growth ability during this fight. If you’re reading this before fighting the Collective, you don’t have it yet — defeating the Collective is what unlocks Growth. But if you’re fighting it on New Game Plus or a second playthrough, know that Growth summons are useless here. Mold enemies are immune to the infected status. Growth applies infected. Against this boss, it does nothing.

What You Get for Winning

Defeating the Collective unlocks the Growth combat ability (a summon that shoots infected projectiles and acts as a distraction) and the Spore Burst ability (a rapid-fire mold projectile).

Growth is widely considered the stronger of the two. It scales with talent upgrades that increase summon duration, add extra allies, and cause health drops on summon death. It’s the foundation of the “minion master” build that becomes one of the strongest late-game setups.

You also get a Resonant Cycle reset — the entire Park zone’s enemies respawn at a higher level, and new world feats appear. This means you can immediately go back and clear the Park’s world feats again for more zone XP and materials.

Quick Reference: Before You Enter the Arena

Beat the Factory Resident in Central first — you must have fire abilities

Buy the Molding Bar artifact from the Park vendor (1,000 Source)

Equip Crush as your secondary (hammer breaks armor)

Set your combo finisher to Split Pivot (applies burning)

Stay on the edges during Phase 2

Use Inferno or Ignite aggressively — do not save it

The Collective looks like a fight about endurance. It isn’t. It’s a fight about bringing the right damage type and understanding that the cloud, not the enemies, is the real clock. Kill the elites fast, keep the boss pressured, and don’t let the cloud box you into a corner. Do those three things, and this fight is one of the easier Resonant encounters.

The Collective isn’t a war of attrition.
