You’re bleeding health after every fight. Vendors charge premium Source for healing items. There’s a better way.
The Coffee Cup artifact gives Dylan passive health regeneration outside of combat. It’s available early, costs nothing to use, and does not lock you out of combat artifacts. Here’s why it is the single best investment of your first crafting materials — and why the common objection to it falls apart the moment you actually use it.
You can have both by spending three seconds in the menu.
What the Coffee Cup Artifact Does
Once crafted in the Gap and equipped, the Coffee Cup slowly restores Dylan’s health whenever you are not actively engaged in combat. You do not need to stand still. You do not need to spend Source. You simply let it work while you run between objectives, climb rooftops, or check your map.
This is not a combat buff. It does not increase your damage. It does not reduce falter buildup. It purely solves one problem: the slow bleed of health across multiple encounters that leaves you walking into boss fights at half HP.
How to Get It
The Coffee Cup artifact pattern is obtained during the Party Won’t Stop side quest in the West Incursion Zone. This quest becomes available early — before you fight your second Resonant. You will find an ice cream truck vendor and a nearby NPC who starts the quest. Completing it rewards you with the pattern.
Once you have the pattern, hold down on the D-pad to enter the Gap. Walk to the artifact formation station on the left, select the Coffee Cup, and craft it. You will need a handful of common materials — Aberrant Splinters, Source, and one or two zone-specific items. If you lack the resources, the vendor in that zone sells what you need.
After crafting, equip it in your loadout. The effect is instant.
Why You Should Always Keep It Equipped
Here is the trick most players miss: you can swap artifacts in and out of your loadout at any time, even mid-fight, provided your weapon is not currently in use.
That means the Coffee Cup is never a wasted slot. You wear it while exploring. You heal up between fights. The moment you spot an enemy, open the loadout menu and replace it with a combat artifact — say the Wetstone for bonus blunt damage or the Fork for increased crit chance. The swap takes two seconds. You lose nothing.
This strategy essentially doubles your effective health pool for the early game. Instead of burning Source on vendor healing items or backtracking to health crates, you regenerate for free. Over the first three zones, that saves you thousands of Source — Source you can spend on Living Shards and Aberrant upgrades instead.
The Counterargument – and Why It Misses the Point
Some players argue that the Coffee Cup is a waste because “you should just learn to avoid damage, and combat artifacts are more valuable in the slot.”
That logic assumes you never take a hit. Even skilled players tank the occasional projectile or get caught in a mold puddle. More importantly, the early game throws swarms of enemies at you in confined spaces. Perfect play is not always possible, especially when you are still learning enemy patterns and your dodge timing is not polished.
The combat artifact advantage is real — which is why you swap to those artifacts the moment combat starts. You do not have to choose between healing and damage. You can have both by spending three seconds in the menu.
This one habit makes the first ten hours of Control Resonant feel dramatically less punishing. Skip the Coffee Cup if you want, but you will spend more time looting for healing items than actually playing the game.
