Every combo finisher in Control Resonant has a job. Spin Edge clears a crowd. Split Orbit floats damage around you while you dodge. But when you face the Factory Resident, the Park Resident, or any boss with a health bar that takes minutes to drain, only one finisher consistently delivers on single-target damage.
That finisher is Wide Edge.
Wide Edge does not need synergy.
Here is why it wins, how the other options compare, and the one scenario where you might pick something else.
What Makes Wide Edge the Single-Target Winner
Wide Edge is the only combo finisher in the game built around one massive hit. The base damage number is the highest of any finisher — the tooltip literally calls it “the highest single hit damage combo finisher.” The attack is a wide arc swing that knocks enemies away, but against a single boss that does not matter. You get the full damage on one target.
The upgrade tree seals the deal. The first upgrade, Wide Edge II, increases damage and falter directly. The mid-tree upgrade Multiplying Force boosts critical chance and falter based on how many enemies you hit with the primary combo leading into the finisher. Against a single target, you lose the multiplier from hitting multiple enemies, but the critical chance bonus still applies. More importantly, the late upgrade Rousing Sabotage applies the Empowered status effect on Dylan himself. That status buffs your combat ability damage and falter by a flat percentage — and since Empowered stacks with Dominance (the double-damage state after an execution), you can push single-target burst into triple-digit multipliers.
Test it. Do a three-hit glaive combo, land Wide Edge on the training dummy in the Gap, and watch the damage number. Then land any other finisher. The difference is visible even without a stopwatch.
How Every Combo Finisher Rates on Single-Target Damage
Wide Edge — Best raw burst
- Damage: highest per hit
- Falter: high
- Synergy: pairs best with Glaive (wide swings to reach the finisher quickly) or any primary that builds combo fast
- Knockback: launches enemies away — irrelevant against bosses, annoying against groups
Spin Edge — Higher potential, harder to land
- Damage: higher than Wide Edge if all three hits connect
- Falter: very high per full sequence
- Problem: the three-hit spin takes time. Bosses with fast attack patterns (the West Incursion Zone Resident’s charge attack) will interrupt you. You also have to stay in melee range for the full spin, which means eating hits.
- Use it when: the boss is stunned or faltered. Against the Mold Resident, for example, you can stagger it with Inferno, then land the full Spin Edge for massive damage.
Uppercut Surge — Power recovery over raw damage
- Damage: moderate blunt damage
- Effect: launches enemy with Lifted status. Hitting a Lifted enemy restores Power (the resource for combat abilities).
- Damage ceiling: lower than Wide Edge, but if you chain it with a combat ability like Inferno, the total damage across the combo can exceed Wide Edge’s single hit.
- Best for: builds that rely on abilities, not weapon damage. If you run Volatile Anomaly + Growth, Uppercut Surge keeps your Power bar full.
Concussive Beatdown — Falter specialist
- Damage: moderate blunt damage, high falter per hit
- Effect: excellent for building the yellow falter bar quickly, which lets you execute enemies and enter Dominance.
- Single-target damage: lower than Wide Edge. Its value is in falter, not raw damage.
Split Pivot — Status applicator
- Damage: low base damage, but applies Weakened and Burning with upgrades
- Effect: best used as a setup tool. Weakened makes the target take more damage from all sources. Burning does damage over time.
- If you have the Ignite combat ability and the Split Pivot finisher upgraded to apply Burning, you can stack two burn sources on a boss. The burn tick itself is modest, but the total damage over a 10-second fight can rival Wide Edge’s instant hit.
- Downside: you have to wait for the burn to tick. Wide Edge kills faster.
Split Orbit — AoE trap, not single-target
- Damage: lowest per hit of any finisher
- Effect: spinning rings around Dylan hit nearby enemies over time
- Verdict: useless for single-target. Use it only for crowd control.
The One Exception: When You Should Not Pick Wide Edge
If you build around status effects — specifically the Infected + Burn explosion combo — then Split Pivot becomes the best single-target finisher for your specific setup.
Here is the scenario. You have the Growth combat ability (summons a mold turret that applies Infected). You have Inferno or Ignite. You pick Split Pivot with the upgrade that applies Burning. In combat, you let Growth apply Infected, then land Split Pivot to apply Burn. The Infected+Burn mix triggers an explosion that deals a flat chunk of damage (around 20-25% of a normal enemy’s health bar, based on testing). Against a boss, you can reapply this explosion every 8-10 seconds.
In an all-status build, Split Pivot’s total damage over a 30-second fight beats Wide Edge. But for any other build — raw damage, crit-heavy strike, or falter-focused — Wide Edge is the cleaner choice.

| Split Pivot | Status/explosion builds | ★★★★☆ (with upgrades) |
| Concussive Beatdown | Falter/takedown loops | ★★☆☆☆ |
| Split Orbit | Crowd control | ★☆☆☆☆ |
Wide Edge does not need synergy. It does not require a specific combat ability. It just hits hard. Unlock it first, upgrade it to Rousing Sabotage, and watch boss health bars disappear in three combo cycles.
