Elder Scrolls Online Launches Night Market Zone and Replaces Endeavors with Tamriel Tomes Battle Pass

By Central

The world of Tamriel undergoes one of its most significant transformations in years with the release of Console Update 49, patch 2.82, for The Elder Scrolls Online. This monumental update introduces Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk, headlined by the challenging new Night Market event zone and the permanent replacement of the Endeavors system with the Tamriel Tomes battle pass. Combined with sweeping quality-of-life improvements, a Dragonknight combat refresh, and major account-wide changes, this patch represents a fundamental shift in how players engage with the long-running MMORPG.

The Night Market: A Dynamic Faction War in Fargrave

Launching on April 29, the Night Market establishes a brand-new type of zone for ESO: the event zone. Located in a previously restricted area of the planar city of Fargrave, this dynamic trade hub has descended into chaos following the disappearance of its leader. Three rival patrons now vie for control, each representing a distinct philosophy and offering unique rewards for mortal adventurers brave enough to enter.

Three Factions Compete for Control

Players must pledge allegiance to one of three factions, each controlling a themed district within the market. The Glittering Goad, led by the patron Tachien, operates on a ruthless meritocracy where wealth equals power. Their arid district, The Parch, is swept by dry winds. The Ruckus, under Kharakhal Moon-Eye, seeks control through brute strength and “protection” rackets, their Skittering Precinct overrun with crawling creatures. Finally, the Thousand Eyes, led by Molto the Whisperer, gathers power through information and subtlety, operating from the dark, foreboding district known as Sorrow’s Friend.

Challenging Activities and Substantial Rewards

The Night Market is designed as a high-difficulty area, encouraging teamwork to overcome its enhanced challenges. Activities range from public skirmishes with dynamic goals and daring races through treacherous streets to puzzle-oriented Oddities and 4-player boss instances featuring Gilded monsters. The pinnacle challenge is The Opulent Ordeal, a 12-player trial that tests coordination and skill.

Rewards are commensurate with the risk. By earning Favor for their chosen faction, players can purchase unique items from faction vendors. Completing activities grants powerful, stackable Boons. A major unlock is the Night’s Den, a new home acquired via an introductory quest that features a direct entrance to the market. The update adds 61 new achievements, awarding six titles—such as “Firebrand,” “The Scurrying,” and “Priceless”—and three unique dyes. Collectibles include new Mementos like the Egg of Arac and numerous furnishings and busts.

Tamriel Tomes: The New Battle Pass System Replaces Endeavors

In a systemic change that affects every player, the Endeavors system and Daily Login Rewards have been permanently removed. Their replacement, Tamriel Tomes, went live on April 2. This new battle pass-style progression system is designed to reward consistent engagement with ESO content throughout each Season.

Progression and Rewards Structure

Each new Tome launches with a Season and lasts for its full duration. Progression is driven by a Challenge System featuring five Weekly Challenges—which can be rerolled and accumulate up to 12 for catch-up—and larger, thematic Seasonal Challenges. Completing these earns Tome Points, which unlock pages of rewards on a linear track.

All players have access to a Free Track containing cosmetics, the new Trade Bar currency, Seals, and gameplay items. A Premium Track offers additional cosmetics and rewards, which are permanently unlocked for the account upon purchase. ESO+ subscribers receive significant benefits, including a 10% bonus to Tome Points earned from challenges and a monthly Cache of Tome Points plus a Premium Tome Token. Accumulating 12 of these tokens unlocks a Premium Tome with bonus rewards.

Introduction of Trade Bars and the Gold Coast Bazaar

Integral to the new economy are Trade Bars, a currency that directly replaces Event Tickets. All existing Event Tickets were automatically converted at a rate of 1 Ticket to 100 Trade Bars. This currency is earned primarily through the Tamriel Tome, as well as from In-Game Events and Vengeance Campaigns. Crucially, Trade Bars are never sold for Crowns.

To spend this new currency, the Gold Coast Bazaar store launched on March 25. Accessible through the Crown Store UI, this store features mounts, pets, outfits, and gameplay items previously available through Golden Pursuits, events, and promotions. It is divided into a Seasonal section that rotates every three months and a permanent Gold Coast Wares section. All purchases are account-bound.

Major Quality-of-Life and Player Experience Overhauls

Update 49 delivers an unprecedented number of player-friendly improvements aimed at reducing friction and respecting player time. One of the most celebrated changes is the shift to free skill and attribute respecs directly from the UI, subject only to a small cooldown. Bag and bank upgrades have seen a 50% reduction in gold cost and reduced Crown costs.

Account-Wide Features and Progression Boosts

Outfit Slots are now account-wide, with a maximum of 10 slots. Previously purchased slots are cumulative toward this new cap. Mount training now allows for three upgrades per session at stables, and 16 mounts that were previously Crown Store exclusives are now available for gold, with existing mount prices reduced to 25,000 gold.

Crafting research is now 50% faster, with the maximum research time reduced from 30 days to 10. The Transmute Crystal cap has been increased to 1,500 (3,000 for ESO+ subscribers). Vampire and Werewolf players will find new discoverable shrines in the world, reduced cure costs, and Crown Store cures now listed at 0 Crowns.

Combat Refresh: Dragonknight and Two-Handed Updates

The Dragonknight class and the Two-Handed weapon skill line have received comprehensive visual, audio, and mechanical updates. Abilities feature enhanced visual effects, new animations, and updated sound design. Passive abilities now include immersive flavor text. Critically, all existing character progression is automatically respected.

Key Dragonknight Changes

The Ardent Flame skill line sees significant boosts. Dragonknight Standard now buffs allies, granting +300 Weapon and Spell Damage and reducing damage taken by 10%. Lava Whip has been adjusted to make maintaining Empowered stacks easier while dealing 40% more damage. Searing Strike’s duration has been extended to 10 seconds, doubling its damage per second.

In the Draconic Power line, Spiked Armor also sees a 10-second duration and a 100% DPS increase. Dragon Blood now scales with the player’s Max Health. The Earthen Heart line introduces a new support shield ability, Superheated Ward, while Molten Weapons causes light and heavy attacks to deal bonus Flame Damage.

Two-Handed Adjustments

The Two-Handed skill line receives quality adjustments to improve fluidity. Berserker Strike’s duration is increased to 12 seconds, Uppercut’s cast time is reduced to 500ms, and Momentum now lasts for 30 seconds, reducing the need for frequent recasts.

New Item Sets and PvP Updates

The update introduces powerful new gear tied to the Night Market factions. Three new Monster Masks correspond to each patron: The Thousand Eyes mask introduces a Shivved mechanic with damage transfer; the Glittering Goad mask creates a Frost Damage chain on bash or heavy attacks; and The Ruckus mask provides enraged stacking that grants Major buffs at maximum stacks.

A new PvP set, Gorethief, features a Bloodthief stacking mechanic consumed by bashes. A new antiquity, the Shattered Paths Signet, causes status effect damage to scale with the player’s Ultimate.

PvP itself receives notable changes. In Cyrodiil, players now gain a movement speed bonus while on roads and out of combat. Keep courtyards have been expanded to prevent gatehouse exploits, and cross-campaign queueing is now enabled. Battlegrounds see the return of 3-sided matches for Weekend Events, replacing the standard queue.

Base Game Expansion and ESO+ Perks

In a move to streamline the new player experience, several major pieces of content are now included for free upon first login after updating. These include the Warden class and the DLCs Imperial City, Orsinium, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood. Furthermore, the Western and Eastern Solstice DLCs are now included in the ESO+ subscription.

ESO+ benefits have been substantially enhanced. Beyond the Tome Point bonuses, subscribers now have a tripled Transmute Crystal cap (3,000), doubled Antiquities lead timers (with Ultimate Leads lasting up to one year), and increased furnishing limits for player housing.

Housing and Miscellaneous Improvements

Housing enthusiasts gain access to two new homes: Buccaneer Bay, a sunny seaside notable home available later in the season, and the Night’s Den, earned through Night Market activities. A total of 55 new furnishings are added from various sources, including Master Writs, plans from Solstice Reward Coffers, and achievement rewards.

Countless other fixes and adjustments have been implemented across zones, quests, and the UI. Notable corrections include resolving text and audio mismatches in the Solstice zone, fixing the Ring of the Pale Order’s interaction with Companions, and adding proper narration to the bag upgrade screen for accessibility.

The scale of Update 49 is transformative, reshaping core progression systems while introducing a vibrant, dangerous new zone for endgame players. By replacing the often-grindy Endeavors with the more structured and rewarding Tamriel Tomes, granting free respecs, and implementing long-requested account-wide features, ZeniMax Online Studios has lowered barriers to engagement. The Night Market, with its faction-based conflict and challenging group content, provides a fresh narrative and gameplay loop that emphasizes player choice and cooperation. This combination of systemic evolution and compelling new content demonstrates a clear commitment to refining the ESO experience for both veteran adventurers and those just beginning their journey in Tamriel, ensuring the world feels more alive and responsive to player action than ever before.
