Lily’s Spear: The Easiest Legendary to Obtain

If you are looking to immediately bolster your arsenal without relying on luck, the Legendary Lily’s Spear is the weapon for you. Unlike the other new additions that require hours of farming, this specific schematic can be purchased directly from a vendor, making it the most accessible Legendary melee weapon in the v0.7.2 update.

How to Get It: The Metal Merchant

Your target is the Metal Merchant. This roaming NPC can be found at specific fixed locations, usually the abandoned churches scattered across the map. You will need to trade with him using Dog Coins, a currency earned by defeating or capturing the adorable but elusive Lamball-esque friends found in the wild.

Location & Cost

The Metal Merchant has two primary spawn points:

1. Desolate Church: Located at coordinates 64, -415.
2. Seabbze Archipelago Church: Located at coordinates -665, 32.

Once you locate him, the Legendary Lily’s Spear schematic is available for a flat rate of 600 Dog Coins. Considering the time it can take to farm a single Legendary drop from a chest, 600 coins is a relatively cheap and guaranteed investment. This makes Lily’s Spear the perfect starting point for updating your melee setup while you farm the materials required for the other, rarer weapons.

Legendary Katana: Where to Farm the Highest Drop Rates

The Legendary Katana is a massive step up in difficulty to obtain. It is a true end-game farm that requires patience and knowledge of the best loot tables. While it can drop from various sources across the map, the drop rates vary significantly depending on where you look.

Primary Farming Locations & Drop Rates

• Sakurajima Island (Best Location): If you are heading to the new content, this is the place to be. Looting the standard chests found around the island offers a 0.133% drop rate.
• Fishing (Sakurajima): Interestingly, fishing is also a viable method. By fishing in the designated spots on Sakurajima, you have a chance to reel in the schematic along with your catch. The rates here are competitive with chest farming, offering a passive way to hunt while gathering other resources.
• Alternative Zones: If you are tired of Sakurajima, you can try your luck at Mount Obsidian or by hunting Desert Supply Drops. These locations offer a slightly lower rate of 0.12%.

The Treasure Map Method (Highest Odds)

For those who want to maximize their statistical chances per loot action, Treasure Maps are the way to go. Specifically, the Treasure Maps that correspond to the Katana’s tier have a 1.14% drop rate. This is significantly higher than the standard chest rates.

However, there is a major catch: you must first farm the specific Treasure Map that yields the Katana, and the maps themselves are random drops. This creates a “double rng” situation where you are farming for a map to farm for a schematic. Because of this, many players—including myself—prefer to simply spam the fishing spots on Sakurajima. It provides a consistent, relaxing loop with a decent chance at the drop, without the hassle of tracking down specific map locations.

Beam Sword: Targeting Enemy Camps for a Sci-Fi Edge

The Beam Sword is the futuristic choice for players who want to slice through Pals with style. In terms of farming, it requires a slightly different approach than the Katana. While the Katana can be found in general exploration chests and fishing spots, the Beam Sword’s drop table is weighted more heavily toward hostile environments.

Primary Farming Locations & Drop Rates

• Enemy Camps (Sakurajima): Your best bet for a farmable source is, once again, Sakurajima. However, instead of focusing on random scenery chests, you want to specifically target Enemy Camps. These are the bases occupied by hostile human NPCs. Looting the chests found within these camps yields a 0.133% drop rate, matching the Katana’s rate from Sakurajima chests.
• Dungeons (Fbreak / Fabreak): If you prefer dungeon crawling, you have two options here. Looting the chests at the end of Fbreak dungeons or engaging in fishing inside Fabreak dungeons offers a 0.065% drop rate. Note that this is roughly half the chance of the surface camps, making dungeons a less efficient option unless you are already farming them for other purposes like Bounties or specific Pal eggs.

The Treasure Map Method

As with the Katana, Treasure Maps offer the highest statistical chance for the Beam Sword, sitting at 0.649%. While this is a significant boost over the 0.133% from camps, it is still roughly half the drop rate of the Katana’s treasure map odds. This reinforces the idea that the Beam Sword is intended to be a rarer find. You are once again faced with the same dilemma: do you farm the specific maps for the higher percentage, or do you stick to the more straightforward loop of clearing enemy camps on Sakurajima? For most players, the consistent camp clearing will likely feel more productive, as it also yields Ammo, Gold, and other valuable resources.

The Regular Sword: Low Level, Surprisingly Rare

Finally, we arrive at the most paradoxical weapon in this update: the regular Sword. Despite being the lowest-tier weapon on this list in terms of level requirement, it is statistically the most difficult to obtain in its Legendary form. This makes it a true collector’s item for completionists.

Why is it so rare?

The Sword has the broadest range of potential sources, which might sound like a good thing. You can find it in starter fishing zones, dungeons, and supply drops. However, the drop rates are spread incredibly thin. While the other weapons hover in the 0.1% to 0.2% range for their best standard sources, the Sword’s highest drop rate from a non-map source is significantly lower. Its best chance comes from Treasure Maps, but even that sits at just 0.218%.

Because the Sword is considered a lower-level item, its Legendary variant seems to have a much lower priority in the game’s loot tables compared to the high-tier Beam Sword or Katana.
