The highly anticipated 0.29.1 update for skate. has officially landed, marking a significant step forward for the community-driven title. More than a simple incremental patch, this release serves as a foundational update that addresses a wide array of player-reported issues while laying the groundwork for the vibrant content of Season 2. Originally slated as version 0.29.0, the team at Full Circle leveraged extra time to incorporate crucial stability fixes, particularly for the Replay Editor, warranting the new “0.29.1” designation. This commitment to transparency and iterative improvement reflects the core philosophy of building skate. alongside its players. The patch delivers on multiple fronts: sweeping bug fixes for a smoother experience, new social and gameplay features like “Own the Lot” co-op mode, major trick system expansions with Impossible Flips and Handplants, and a suite of accessibility and quality-of-life improvements. Let’s break down everything you need to know about the update that is setting the stage for skate.‘s continued evolution.
Building upon its foundational fixes, Patch 0.29.1 demonstrates a clear, two-pronged approach: stabilizing the core experience and enriching it with meaningful new content. The extensive list of bug fixes reads like a direct response to community forums and gameplay sessions. Key resolutions include eliminating the Replay Editor’s export stuttering and slow-motion issues on console, fixing progression-halting bugs in missions like “Crew Challenges and You,” and smoothing out social play by ensuring party members can reliably join and leave co-op challenges. The update also tackles frustrating interface bugs, such as the missing HUD after starting a challenge and the inconsistent display of Rip Score and San Van Bucks. By addressing these pain points, Full Circle ensures a more polished and reliable sandbox for players to create, share, and compete within.
Patch Notes – New Features for SEASON 2 and Hotfix”/>A New Era of Social Skating: Co-Op and Communication
Season 2 introduces “Own the Lot,” a dedicated cooperative mode designed for party play. This time-attack challenge pushes teams of up to four skaters to complete as many objectives as possible, scaling in difficulty and rewarding players with Tix. The mode is explicitly tuned for group play, with developers noting that solo attempts will prove exceedingly difficult. Complementing this new social pillar is the long-requested Party Voice Chat. Integrated with robust accessibility features, the system includes menu narration for activation, Text-to-Speech for communication wheel statements, and Speech-to-Text to display voice chat as on-screen text. Furthermore, the new Party Beacons system, accessible via the communications wheel, allows players to drop a public invite in the world, making spontaneous group formation more seamless than ever.
Expanding the Trick Arsenal: Impossibles and Handplants Revamped
A major highlight for core gameplay is the substantial expansion of the trick library. The community’s call for proper Impossible Flips has been answered, not just with the base trick but with a full suite of variations including Nollie, Front Foot, and Nollie Back Foot Impossibles. Each can be performed as held, late, and from grinds and manuals, adding immense depth to flatground and combo possibilities.
Simultaneously, Handplants have received a comprehensive overhaul. Fourteen new variants have been added, bringing the total to sixteen, and they can now be performed in Fakie stance. The system now offers greater player control, with hold duration dictating the trick’s length and the ability to chain multiple handplant variants back-to-back within a single plant. These additions promise to elevate vert and transition skating, providing more tools for creative expression and technical challenge completion.
Deepening the Journey: Missions, Challenges, and Progression Tuning
Patch 0.29.1 brings substantial new goals and refines the reward loop with fresh missions and a recalibrated challenge system. Two new narrative missions await:
- Point of Impossibility: Unlocked after Tour 2, this mission sends you underground to discover the origins of the Impossible flip in San Van, rewarding 500 Tix and three new props.
- Coping Inspector: Accessible after Tour 3, this mission focuses on the new Handplant mechanics across newly added rooftop spots, granting 500 Tix, a unique title, and a Rooftop Fast Travel Point.
The Seasonal Challenges system has been redesigned based on player feedback. While weekly challenges will still drop, they will now reset twice per season, tripling the opportunities to earn Tix. Although individual challenge rewards are slightly reduced, the overall Tix earnable from Seasonal Challenges has more than doubled, especially when combined with the new “Own the Lot” mode. A “bevy” of new challenges are spread across locations like the Casper Hotel Rooftop and Canal Buildings.
The skate.Pass and Tasks have also seen thoughtful adjustments. The Season 2 skate.Pass features “tighter scaling” for faster early progression and includes more San Van Bucks (SVB). Crucially, the new Legacy skate.Pass system allows players to continue progressing and claiming rewards from their most recent previous premium pass while the new season is live, with Tix earned applying to both passes simultaneously.
Task management is now more forgiving: Weekly Tasks last three weeks, and Seasonal Tasks have become Monthly Tasks to inject more variety. An auto-claim function ensures unclaimed task rewards are delivered via a login message within 24 hours, preventing lost rewards.
Creation and Customization: Advanced Tools and More Options
Content creators receive a powerful new tool with the Advanced Edit Mode for the Replay Editor. This mode introduces a keyframe-based editing system, allowing you to:
- Trim replays and add/edit keyframes.
- Interpolate between camera types and targets.
- Adjust field of view, tilt, roll, and framing per keyframe.
- Access all export settings within the advanced interface.
Character expression is enhanced with five new hairstyles, two facial hair options, and three new eye shapes in the character creator. Additionally, Vee’s commentary frequency during free skate has been reduced based on community feedback, with the option to fully mute her remaining available for those preferring silence.
Settings, Accessibility, and Polish
A host of new gameplay settings offer finer control:
- Compass on HUD: Toggle visibility.
- Hold Fakie Push: Maintain fakie stance after pushing.
- Grind Lean Exit: Disable to avoid accidentally exiting grinds.
- Maximum Pump Strength: Control speed gain from pumping.
World immersion is boosted with visual improvements to skater models and environments, the addition of 50 new pedestrian types, and 3D Audio support for PlayStation 5. Note that Audio Volume settings will be reset to default this season to facilitate a new, easier music boosting option via the Toolbar.
Acknowledged Issues: Season 2 Known Bugs
The developers remain transparent about lingering issues, detailing a list of Season 2 Known Issues. These include a separate in-game stuttering in the Replay Editor (distinct from the fixed export issue), occasional mission progression hiccups, UI oddities, and rare social or teleportation bugs. Workarounds are provided where possible, such as restarting the game to fix a tutorial dialogue loop.

Quality of Life Unpacked: How New Settings Change Your Session
The true mark of a deep simulation is not just in its complexity, but in the granularity of control it offers the player to tailor that complexity to their personal style. Patch 0.29.1 for skate. delivers precisely this through a suite of new gameplay settings that, while seemingly minor in description, have a profound impact on the rhythm, creativity, and flow of every session. These options move beyond simple toggles, acting as dials that players can adjust to fundamentally alter their interaction with the game’s physics and presentation, effectively allowing you to craft a more personalized skating experience.
One of the most impactful additions is the “Hold Fakie Push” setting. Previously, pushing while in fakie (backwards) stance would automatically revert your skater to their regular stance, a realism-oriented choice that could disrupt the fluidity of certain lines. Enabling this new option breaks that chain, allowing you to maintain your fakie momentum after a push. This single change opens up new avenues for technical street lines where maintaining a backward orientation is key, and enhances the feeling of continuous, unbroken motion in transition skating, letting riders pump through a bowl or half-pipe without the jarring automatic switch.
Similarly transformative is the “Grind Lean Exit” toggle. For many players, especially those focusing on stylish, extended grinds, the previous behavior where leaning too deeply would cause an unintentional exit was a source of frustration. Turning this setting off removes that penalty, granting the skater greater freedom to manipulate their board’s angle during a grind without fear of an abrupt bail. This empowers players to pursue more exaggerated and aesthetically pleasing grind positions, effectively separating the skill of balance from the risk of accidental dismount and placing a greater emphasis on pure style during rail and ledge play.
Control over kinetic energy is refined with the new “Maximum Pump Strength” slider, found within the Assists menu. Pumping—the act of crouching and rising at the crest of transitions to generate speed—is a core tenet of vert and transition skating. This setting allows players to cap the amount of speed gained from each pump. Beginners can lower it to make managing velocity in tight pools or bowls less daunting, while experts can maximize it to achieve blistering speeds and massive airs on larger ramps. It’s a masterful assist that doesn’t simplify the timing but scales the reward, making transition skating more accessible without diminishing its skill ceiling.
For the navigationally conscious, the ability to hide the Compass on the HUD via the Interface settings is a subtle but significant immersion booster. While the compass is a useful tool for locating specific challenges or friends in the expansive world of San Van, its constant presence can detract from the cinematic feel of a carefully crafted line or a serene free-skate session. The option to remove it clears visual clutter, encouraging players to learn the landscape organically and rely on landmark recognition, which in turn fosters a deeper connection with the game’s meticulously designed environments.
Beyond these player-facing controls, the patch includes systemic quality-of-life improvements that streamline the entire experience. The relocation of the Social Menu from a hub tile to the top navigation bar is a classic example of thoughtful UI/UX design. This seemingly small change reduces the number of clicks needed to access party functions and friends lists, facilitating smoother social interactions. It acknowledges that in a live-service game centered around community, social features should be persistently and immediately accessible, not buried within sub-menus.
The mandated reset of Audio Volume settings at the season’s start, accompanied by the developer’s note, is another nuanced improvement. This reset is not an arbitrary inconvenience but a deliberate clearing of the slate to integrate a new, streamlined system for boosting music volume directly from the Toolbar. It prioritizes a long-term, elegant solution for audio control over maintaining individual legacy settings, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach to interface evolution where temporary minor inconvenience is traded for a permanently better user experience.
Collectively, these updates represent a maturation of skate.’s design philosophy. The team is no longer just building a solid skating foundation; they are now meticulously sanding down its rough edges and installing custom fixtures. By providing players with the tools to adjust how fakies work, how grinds end, how speed is generated, and how information is displayed, they are empowering the community to define their own perfect session. This shift from a one-size-fits-all simulation to a customizable skating toolkit is perhaps the most significant “quality-of-life” change of all, as it places the feeling of the game increasingly in the player’s own hands.

Own the Lot also includes special season-long Tasks that grant rewards. For more information about Own the Lot, visit our Season 2 article.

- Nollie Back Foot Impossible Flips
- All Impossible Flips can also be performed as Held, Late, and from Grinds and Manuals

- Handplants can now be held for different durations based on how long you hold the input.
- Multiple Handplant variants can now be chained back-to-back within the same plant.
Developer’s Note: When it comes to Flip Tricks, proper Impossibles have been a common request. So, we’ve not only added new gestures and animations for base Impossible Flips, but also, new variations like Nollies and Front-Foots to give you more options. On the vert skating side, we’ve also revamped Handplants to feel better, give more control, and fill out all the missing trick variants we didn’t get to at Early Access launch. We’re looking forward to seeing these new additions show up in clips, expand your options for lines, and provide more variation for challenges. We are always looking for ways to enhance the experience and give as much control over your skater and experience as possible. Darkslides and more will be coming in future seasons, but until then, we hope you enjoy these updates and look forward to your feedback so we can keep improving the skating experience.
Challenges
A bevy of Challenges spread across the Casper Hotel Rooftop, Road Tunnel, Building Roof Patio, and Canal Buildings, and the rest of San Van are powersliding into Season 2. We’ve made big improvements to how we deliver and refresh Seasonal Challenges based on community feedback—Seasonal Challenges will still drop each week, but we’ll also reset them twice over the season, giving you more opportunities to earn Tix.
Each individual challenge won’t give quite as many Tix, but over the season you’ll be able to earn more than twice the Tix from Seasonal Challenges, not including the Tix you can also earn from the new Own the Lots. Plus, the amount of challenges dropping per week in Season 2 has been increased. For a full breakdown of these changes, including how many more Tix you’ll earn each season, visit our Season 2 article.
Missions
Point of Impossibility will bring you underground on a hunt for the place where the Impossible was first landed in San Van. The Mission is unlocked after completion of Shingo’s Secret Scoring Tips mission in Tour 2. Completing Point of Impossibility rewards you with 500 Tix and three new Props.
Coping Inspector will take you to the rooftops for some Handplant practice at a handful of the newly added rooftop spots, and unlocks after completion of The Gift of Grab mission in Tour 3. - Your beacon is automatically cleared when the party is full or if you join another party.
skate.Pass
Developer’s Note: Community conversations have made it clear that you want more ways to play, earn Tix, and express yourself through cosmetics. In Season 1 the skate.pass was designed to help you earn the items you wanted most. But we learned that many of you enjoy the feeling of completing the skate.Pass from start to finish.
For Season 2, we’re aiming to support both approaches. We’ve tuned the amount of Tix required to unlock rewards pages on the skate.Pass. You will also find we added a bit more SVB for you to collect this time around. We’re also actively considering additional places where Tix can be exchanged outside the skate.Pass, such as at Extravert. All in all, the Season 2 skate.Pass will have tighter scaling to promote quicker progression through the earlier pages of the skate.Pass.
Legacy skate.Pass
- Legacy skate.Pass lets you keep progressing and claiming rewards from the premium pass you bought last season while the new season is live. Only your most recent previous premium skate.pass is eligible. Any progress you make from earning Tix will be applied to both your Season 1 Legacy skate.Pass and your Season 2 skate.Pass.
News
- Read up on what’s new in skate. News will display when you enter the game, or can be accessed at any time from the main menu.
Vee
- Reduced frequency and adjusted triggers for Gameplay Vee dialogue.
Developer’s Note: We heard your feedback that Vee was commenting a bit too often during free skate. We’ve adjusted both the frequency and timing of Vee’s lines to create a quieter experience. And if you prefer to do your tricks in total silence, the option to fully mute Vee while free skating is still available.
SEASON 2 KNOWN ISSUES
- There is an additional stuttering issue present when using the replay editor in-game, noticeable as skipped frames. This is separate from the exported video issue fixed in the 0.29.1 Patch Notes.
- Stalled exported replay videos if going into the menus while recording.
- Sometimes, putting the game on fullscreen and leaving it minimized for three or four minutes will prevent the player from re-opening it until the game is restarted.
- Often the Team Up, Throw Down mission does not end until the player untracks and retracks the mission.
- The Throwdowns queue timer freezes after all other players leave the queue.
- When the player accepts an invitation, the invitation pop-up appears again and an error modal shows up.
- During Stop, Quick Drop, and Roll Mission the fliptrick over cars criteria doesn’t seem to track until after you complete all of the other criterias.
- Often during the tutorial, if you wipeout during the Ollie Course, Vee’s line about being off board will loop infinitely.
- Workaround: Closing and re-launching the game.
- The player needs to press the Back button two times for the missions menu to close.
- Rarely after teleporting to another player, the player will stop seeing traffic, pedestrians and other players.
- Rarely, the Back button has no functionality, and the player cannot exit the Replay Editor.
- The board stickers from the skate.pass don’t appear on the board while the player is previewing them.
- The speech-to-text feature does not transpose the words correctly.
- Rarely, when interacting with a player and joining their party, you will accidentally join another player’s party.
- Title crashes when/if the players spam the changing tabs buttons in the SKATER menu.
- Exported videos are longer than their displayed in-game length.
- Character model stutters sometimes while performing tricks on a busy server.
- After spending time in the Settings menu or after changing the graphics lighting setting, shadows and lighting in San Van becomes inconsistent.
