Most gear guides for AION 2 are already wrong. They copy Korean and Taiwan progression numbers that global doesn’t share. Pet breakpoints changed. Enhancement costs changed. Even the test server didn’t reflect launch balance. What survived the translation are the systems themselves — and the order in which you should touch them.
This is the non-obvious path from hitting level 45 at around 700-800 gear score to cracking 1,400, the threshold that unlocks Vaskilia Sky Island. It skips definitions. It assumes you know what a mana stone is. It focuses on where players waste resources and what actually moves the number.
The +1 enhancement on every piece of gear adds roughly 100-120 item level combined.
Why the Standard Advice Fails
The common route — grind one-star dungeons, repeat them until your gear drops, enhance everything equally — is a resource trap. Your Odal energy is capped. Your enhancement stones are finite. Your kinah is better spent elsewhere. Players who treat gear score like a leveling bar they can simply grind out hit a wall around 1,100 and wonder why their friends at 1,400 are running different content entirely.
The difference is sequencing. The players who accelerate past the mid-tier slog don’t farm more. They convert fixed resources into item level in the right order, then spend their dungeon energy only where the guaranteed payout justifies it.
The 1,000 Gate and the Main Story
Your first hard checkpoint is 1,000 gear score. The main story questline stops there. Everything before that number is about clearing the gate efficiently.
The journal is your primary tool. Hit J, open your regional quests, and scroll through every entry. Several side quests reward accessories — rings, earrings, necklaces — and at least one grants a class rune chest. Do not skip these. The accessories alone can account for 100-150 gear score, and most players below 1,000 are missing two or three of them entirely.
Run every sealed dungeon you can access while doing those quests. Each one awards Daevanion crystals, and each crystal spent on your Daevanion board returns one to three gear score depending on the node. The board is a two-for-one system: it raises both item level and combat power. Sealed dungeons also drop enhancement stones, which you will need immediately.
Strongholds are secondary at this stage. They feed belt enhancement scrolls, which matter later. Seal dungeons matter now.
The Enhancement Floor
Once the main story is done — or before it, if you’re sitting at 900 — the cheapest gear score on the board is enhancement. Not deep enhancement. The +1 floor.
Every piece of gear you own can take +1 for nearly nothing. Armor, accessories, weapon, guard. The cost scales mildly, but the first level on ten or twelve pieces adds roughly 100-120 item level combined. This is the single most efficient gear score transaction in the game, and most new players skip it because they’re saving stones for bigger upgrades.
Then upgrade the guaranteed drops. The main story grants a Spiritforged weapon and guard. Both can be enhanced to +10 at 100% success, and the cost is tolerable. Do that before touching any dungeon gear.
Your green belt and amulet should also go to +10. Once there, use substance morph to upgrade them to blue. The jump from a +10 green belt to a +10 blue belt is roughly 13 item level on that slot alone. Blue to yellow is another 29. That’s the kind of gain that compounds across four or five slots.
Mana Stones: The One-Green Rule
Mana stones are a gear score multiplier hiding behind pretty colors. A white stone grants one item level. A green grants two. The difference across eight slots is eight points, which sounds small until you’re at 1,380 with two hours to reset.
Engrave one stone into every piece of gear. If it rolls white, re-engrave until you see green. Don’t chase double greens yet. Don’t socket superior stones into transitional gear. The goal is a single green on everything, then stop. You will replace these pieces within a few days of hitting 1,400, and every superior stone you burn now is a resource you can’t recover.
The one exception is the bracelet you get from finishing the abyss questline. That item survives for months. It deserves a superior stone and enhancements past +10.
The Class Rune Trap
Class runes are the easiest way to lose 40 gear score permanently. They have an 80% success chance at +1 to +2, and failure destroys the rune outright. There is no durability. There is no repair. It’s gone.
You get four from side quests. That’s it until nightmare content opens up more. Players who enhance these carelessly — chasing +3 or +4 before they’ve secured replacements — are actively deleting their gear score.
Use one or two attempts at +2 if your journal has another class rune chest as a backup reward. Otherwise, leave them at +1 and prioritize every other system first.
Closing the Gap: 1,100 to 1,400
At this point you should be around 1,100-1,200. The remaining 200-300 points comes from Daevanion crystals, and this is where the resource strategy matters.
You have three sources of crystals after the map dries up:
The Shugo Festival. It opens at the top of every hour. Enter, play whatever mini-game is active, and buy crystals from the festival shop. They cost 50, then 100, then 200, then 400 — the price doubles per purchase. Buy the first two or three tiers, then stop.
Nightmare. The white-named elite bosses drop crystals and are farmable at challenge level one. They’re tanky but don’t hit hard. Each kill yields fragments that convert to crystals. This is the most reliable repeatable source outside the festival.
The trade shop. Under the growth tab, you can buy a limited stock of crystals and at least one additional class rune if you’ve already bricked yours. This is the catch-all for the last 30-50 points that push you over 1,400.
The Spacetime Rift Economy
Enhancement stones become the bottleneck around 1,200. The most efficient source is the Spacetime Rift, which spawns every three hours starting at 7:00 a.m. It teleports up to 500 players into the opposing faction’s territory.
On the other side, complete their sealed dungeons. Each awards roughly 2,500 enhancement stones, and there are enough of them to bank ten thousand or more in a single incursion. Rival factions may contest you, but the PvP is incidental — most players are there for the same reason you are. This single activity can fund every enhancement you need from 1,100 to 1,400.
The daily dungeon also pays out enhancement stones, scaling to a maximum of 10,000 based on how many mobs you clear before the timer ends. It’s not as efficient as the rift, but it’s always available.
What 1,400 Actually Unlocks
Vaskilia Sky Island is the content gate. It drops item level 70 gear, which is a massive step up from what you’ve been wearing. The expedition version requires 1,400. The conquest version is harder but drops the same pool.
Your first move at 1,400 is a single pity chest run. Complete the expedition three times and loot the chest. Wait — don’t open it immediately. Do the conquest version until you accumulate a gear exchange voucher. Combined with the expedition pity box, you’ll have two guaranteed selections plus whatever random drops occur. Use those to fill your weakest slots, then enhance what you kept to +5.
Draupnir Caverns, the previous dungeon tier, is skippable at this point. Players who ran it heavily for yellow gear during the 1,100-1,400 stretch spent energy that could have funded Vaskilia runs. The pity system at 1,400 explicitly exists to prevent bad luck from gating you — use it instead of grinding old content.
The Technical Overhead
None of this progression matters if your connection drops you mid-rift. AION 2’s combat is surprisingly latency-sensitive — faster classes see their attack timing and combo windows shift noticeably between 40ms and 80ms. In most production environments, a stable 50ms beats a fluctuating 20-80ms line because the game’s macro system re-queues skills based on when the server receives your inputs.
Several creator guides recommend third-party ping boosters for this reason. LagZapper and Gear Booster both advertise built-in DPS meters alongside route optimization, which is useful for testing rotations while you gear up. Use whatever works, but the underlying point is practical: test your connection to your chosen region before launch day, not after.
Nvidia has confirmed DLSS 4.5 super resolution and multi-frame generation support for the global client, with day-one Game Ready drivers. If you’re on an RTX 5000-series laptop GPU, disable G-Sync and enable VSync in the control panel before activating frame generation — it’s an interaction that causes the option to grey out. AMD players get FSR support but no day-one driver, so update graphics drivers regardless of which side you’re on.
What the Next Milestone Looks Like
At 1,600, the game shifts. Expeditions stop being the main gear score source. Transcendence takes over — farming it yields Arcana cards that slot into five slots, each green card worth 40 item level. A full set of green cards walks you from 1,600 to 1,800 without touching your gear. Replacing greens with blues adds another 100.
This is the point where item level pressure eases and combat power starts mattering more. Stigmas, soul binding, and crafted gear — which outpaces dungeon drops at item level 94-102 — become the real progression. The 1,400 push is the last time raw gear score is a simple math problem.
Players who rush through it without banking enhancement stones and crafting materials hit a soft wall at 2,800 where crafting replaces drops entirely. The habits you build now — checking reward previews, refusing to overspend on transitional gear, using the rift instead of begging for dungeon carries — are what separate the players who hit endgame in the first month from everyone else.
