The backbone of any good team is its support. In Deadlock, the third-person MOBA developed by Valve Software, support can make or break the outcome of every match. The support class’s role is to assist their team in any way they can. For some, that means healing, and for others, it means buffing your teammates and bolstering their own abilities. Heroes can be built in different ways using items from the shop, meaning that any playable character can be tweaked to your liking. At the base level, there are some heroes who are best equipped for this role. This guide examines the top support heroes in Deadlock, detailing their unique abilities and how they can turn the tide of battle.
10. Dynamo
In Valve’s Deadlock, Dynamo is the quintessential support class. His abilities enable him to impact the flow of combat in ways both big and small. His Kinetic Pulse ability knocks enemies up into the air, where they will be momentarily vulnerable to further attacks from you and your team. For quick escapes, Quantum Entanglement will allow you to temporarily vanish and reappear a safe distance away. This ability can also be used to take your teammates along with you, boosting their firing rate by half of yours. Finally, his Rejuvenating Aurora ability restores health for both himself and any nearby teammates, making it one of the most universally helpful functions of this character to the well-being of your team. Using this ability at the correct time can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
9. Sinclair
Sinclair may seem like an odd choice for a support character in Deadlock, but his kit allows him to fulfill the duty’s role quite expertly, as he can severely scale back the opposition’s onslaught, giving his team a moment to respond. This is largely due to his potent Vexing Bolt attack, which slows his target’s rate of fire, making him extremely strong against DPS characters who rely on a faster fire rate to deal large amounts of damage. Not only that, but Sinclair can also turn enemy targets into rabbits, creating even more opportunities for his team to rally behind him and overcome the opposition. Sure, he’s not the traditional support-type character, but when built and played with serving that specific role in mind, he can easily stand out as one of the best offerings in the game.
8. Kelvin
Kelvin excels at supplying his teammates with a near-constant flow of health. Nearly every action he can take benefits his team in some way, from healing to advanced mobility. After a second upgrade, his Frost Grenade ability will heal teammates in addition to damaging and slowing enemies, combining offensive and defensive qualities. The ice paths Kelvin can create to navigate the map and bypass barriers can also be used by the rest of his team, enabling ambushes from unexpected angles. When inside his Frozen Shelter, enemies will be slowed, and teammates will be healed, trapped inside the dome and unable to escape.
7. The Doorman
In a similar boat to Sinclair, The Doorman isn’t everyone’s first thought when it comes to a support character in Deadlock, but he fits the role quite well and can make an enormous difference in the match when played and built correctly. His unique Doorway ability is arguably one of the best support-type abilities in the game, as he can essentially create a shortcut for his team or a hazardous deathtrap for the enemy, changing the tides of battle. While The Doorman won’t be going around supplying his teammates with much-needed heals or buffs, being able to summon a Doorway into the map that his entire team can take for a big push is extraordinarily strong. You can also shoot projectiles through one Doorway and have it appear through the other, making it devastating in key situations. Do not sleep on The Doorman’s potential as support.
6. McGinnis
When playing as McGinnis, your tools are your best friends. Even without the aid of your team, McGinnis can deploy a portable sentry to harass enemies and deter them from important areas. When used in conjunction with teammates, this sentry is another roadblock enemies must face, which can make all the difference during a fight. This allows McGinnis to operate on multiple fronts, dividing her attention among the tasks needed to win. Additionally, she can deploy a Medicinal Specter, a beacon that restores the health of friendlies within the vicinity. Her Spectral Wall ability can be used to box enemies in or deny them access to contested areas, making them easy targets for either her sentry or the rest of your team.
5. Mo & Krill
There aren’t many tanky supports in Deadlock, but Mo & Krill are undoubtedly one of them, as they can mitigate tons of incoming damage by essentially acting like a meatshield, while also unleashing their Sand Blast ability to Disarm the opposition temporarily, making it so they cannot use their weapon. They can also Stun them via Combo, making them incredibly frustrating to deal with. Mo & Krill aren’t your typical support heroes in Deadlock, and that’s okay, as they make up for it by being a constant thorn in the enemy’s side that must be dealt with as soon as possible if they want any chance of surviving. Sure, they can be played as a tank or carry, but they also serve as a solid support role when built and played for it.
4. Viscous
The best feature of Viscous is their ability to soak up large amounts of damage, but they also have a powerful tool that allows them to support the rest of their team. At any time, Viscous can encase either themselves or a teammate in a large, gelatinous cube that temporarily shields whoever is inside. This cube protects whoever is inside from incoming damage while also restoring their health and removing any debilitating effects they might currently be experiencing. When used tactically, this can protect teammates while they execute their own abilities. The rest of the abilities that Viscous has at their disposal are secondary to this for the purposes of supporting their team, but they can buy your team valuable time by slowing the enemy.
3. Rem
Rem is just as potent a support character as they are cute, so that means they are one of the best in the game. This is largely thanks to their Tag Along ability, which allows them to leap to an ally and take a quick nap beside them, healing a large chunk of their health, while providing a bit of health regeneration afterward, making it one of the more potent burst-heals in the game. Furthermore, with Naptime, they can severely hinder the opposition’s dash range and mobility if they’re caught in their gaze. So, not only is Rem an excellent burst-healer, but they also have solid crowd control, which is tremendously crucial to have during teamfights. Overall, Rem is a solid character overall, and one of the better offerings in the support role.
2. Ivy
Ivy has a variety of tools in her arsenal, many of which complement her ability to aid her team. When locked onto targeted teammates, Ivy can connect with them for increased healing and other buffs, such as increased firing rate and the lifesteal effect on the damage they deal. When upgraded, multiple teammates can be connected to the chain, spreading the benefits of the healing power even further through your team. This is Ivy’s strongest supportive tool, with her other abilities allowing her to stop foes in their tracks by slowing and stunning them. In addition, Ivy’s Air Drop ability allows her to pick up and carry a teammate for a short distance, dropping them on foes and causing an explosion that slows enemies and gives both players shields and resistances against incoming damage after the drop. With this ability, Ivy can deliver her teammates directly where they’ll be the most useful.
1. Paige
Lastly, we have Paige, arguably the best support hero in Deadlock. Not only can she grant shields to her teammates via Plot Armor, but she can also heal her allies while dealing considerable damage to the enemy with her potent Rallying Charge ability. And that’s not all, as she can also apply slow to enemies with her Captivating Read, which will eventually immobilize them, allowing her teammates to capitalize on the situation for free kills. With access to shields, heals, slows, and the ability to potentially immobilize targets, Paige is undoubtedly one of the best choices in the game, and that’s without taking into consideration she can also dish out some pretty serious damage. If you’re looking for a support hero who can do a little bit of everything, and do it all very well and optimally, then Paige should be your go-to choice.
From the pure healing output of Kelvin and Rem to the disruptive, unconventional utility of Sinclair and The Doorman, the support role in Deadlock offers a rich spectrum of tactical options. A hero like Paige demonstrates that the best supports can shield, heal, control, and damage, proving that a well-played support is not just an assistant but a cornerstone of victory. Mastering any of these heroes will provide your team with the crucial edge needed to dominate the lanes and secure wins.
