You’d think the most striking outfits in Control Resonant would be reserved for defeating the final resonant boss. The truth is the exact opposite: nearly every cosmetic is rewards from side content you can finish in the first few hours—if you know where to look. And the game deliberately makes that hard.
Most players focus entirely on the main story and miss half the wardrobe. Here’s every method to unlock all cosmetics, from hidden puzzles to an adorable dog.

How Outfit Changing Actually Works
You can only change Dylan’s appearance at designated jacket icons on the map. These look like a small coat hanger symbol. Each zone has one or two of these. After unlocking a new outfit, simply fast-travel or walk to any jacket icon and open the wardrobe menu.
The game never highlights these icons until you’re close. If you see a jacket marker that hasn’t turned white yet, approach it to activate it. Once active, you can swap between all unlocked cosmetics freely.
Side Quests That Always Reward an Outfit
Side quests are the primary source of cosmetics. Every major side story concludes with a unique outfit. Here are the ones that definitely grant one:
- The Dog’s Lost Toy – Start by finding a dog on a rooftop southwest of the Oldest House (near the starting area). The dog wants its dragon soft toy, which is on a nearby roof. Return it and the dog moves to the next zone. Repeat this in all seven zones. The final reward is a hidden outfit you can’t get any other way. The dog appears in each zone on a different rooftop, but the toy is always very close.
- The Taxi Mystery – Listen for a persistent taxi horn somewhere in the city. Getting into the taxi starts a quest where you must find patterns in photographs. Complete all the pattern-spotting steps and you’ll unlock another outfit. The taxi appears in different locations after each phase.
- The Scientist’s Experiments – In one of the FBC testing facilities, a scientist asks for help with dangerous experiments. Your choices here affect the outcome, but the cosmetic reward is the same regardless of which branch you take. You get it after finishing the multi-step chain.
- The Party Won’t Stop – A side quest in the West Incursion Zone involving a malfunctioning sound system. This one rewards an artifact (Barbed Blade), not a cosmetic. Worth doing for the utility, but not for outfits.
- The Complete Set – The speaker-collection quest in the auction house yields a powerful artifact, not a cosmetic. Don’t waste time here if you’re only hunting outfits.
Hidden Puzzle Outfits
These are completely unmarked on the map. Only exploration or hints from environment notes will guide you.
- Six Storefront Basements – Across Manhattan, certain storefronts (a diner, a laundromat, an art gallery, etc.) have lights on inside. Enter them, solve the environmental puzzle (often involving activating switches in a specific order), and find a hidden basement. Each basement contains a large resource crate that yields either a health upgrade or a power upgrade. Finding all six basements also unlocks a secret outfit as an unlisted reward.
- The Arcade High Score Outfit – Each zone has an arcade machine. Beating the second-highest score on any machine rewards a power upgrade. Beating the top score rewards a reset item. But there’s a hidden condition: if you manage to get first place on the arcade machine in the park zone, a special cutscene triggers and you receive a unique cosmetic. The park machine is the only one tied to an outfit.
- Easter Egg: Jake Baldino Look – In the wardrobe menu, there’s a specific combination of hair and beard that makes Dylan resemble Jake Baldino from Gameranx. Equip the hair that appears as a messy brown cut and the beard that’s a short stubble. This isn’t a quest reward—it’s a built-in easter egg.
Why Most Players Miss Cosmetics
The game never sends you a notification when you unlock a new outfit. You must manually check the wardrobe at a jacket icon to see if something new appeared. After completing any side quest, fast-travel to the nearest jacket icon and open the wardrobe. If you don’t, you might finish the entire game thinking you only have the default outfit.
Also, several cosmetics are tied to world feats – the white icons on the map (apex hunts, hiss hives, hold the line). Clearing a certain number of these in a zone increases the zone level, and at zone level 3 you unlock a cosmetic reward for that zone. Check the zone details screen to track your progress.
Prioritize These Before the First Resonant Cycle
Defeating any resonant boss triggers a world reset that scales enemy levels. If you rush into a resonant fight without doing the side content, you’ll face tougher enemies while still missing half the cosmetics. Plan your early hours like this:
- Unlock the map radar in Central.
- Find the dog and start the toy chain.
- Clear all storefront puzzles in Central and the West Incursion Zone (these are low-level and safe).
- Complete the taxi mystery and the scientist experiment chain.
- Do the park zone arcade machine for that special outfit.
After that, feel free to tackle the resonant bosses. The world will reset, but you’ll already have collected the rarest cosmetics at their easiest difficulty.
What About New Game Plus?
Control Resonant includes a New Game Plus mode that lets you carry over all unlocked outfits plus any unspent reset items. You cannot get additional outfits in NG+ that you missed in the first playthrough—only those you already earned. So if you skipped a side quest, you must replay that quest in a fresh save or load an earlier save.
If you want the full collection, use the NG+ to experiment with different combat ability choices rather than hoping for new cosmetics. The wardrobe is fully forward-compatible: every outfit you unlocked carries over.
