Highlights
  • The Threshold Taxi side quest triggers upon hearing a specific repeating taxi horn near the vehicle.
  • Each photograph hunt requires finding an exact real-world location matching the photo's composition without map markers.
  • The Perpetual Cabbie artifact grants a passive 15% chance to regain power from any destructible object interaction.

You hear a horn. Not a normal car horn — a specific, repeating taxi honk cutting through the sound of the Hiss. Most players run past it, treating it as ambient noise. It is not.

The Threshold Taxi is one of Control Resonant’s most missable side quests. It sends you hunting across five zones, solving visual pattern puzzles, and unlocking a reward that reshapes how you approach late-game fights. Here is the full walkthrough.

The Threshold Taxi is one of Control Resonant's most missable side quests.

How to Start the Quest

The quest triggers the first time you hear that taxi horn in the open world. The horn plays when you are within about 20 meters of the vehicle. The taxi looks like a normal yellow cab — not glowing, not marked on the map. It will be honking repeatedly.

Walk up to the driver’s side door and press the interact button. Dylan will hop in. This triggers the first ride and the quest “Threshold Taxi” appears in your journal.

One specific spawn location: in the West Incursion Zone, near the parking garage where you unlock the gravity shift ability. The taxi sits on the street just southeast of the garage entrance. It honks until you either ride it or leave the zone.

The Photograph Hunt

After the first ride, you arrive at a threshold — a small, inaccessible pocket of Manhattan. A cutscene plays. Then you receive a photograph in your inventory. The photo shows a location somewhere in the city: a specific building corner, a graffiti tag, a distinct arrangement of street furniture.

Your job is to find that exact spot in the real world.

The game does not mark it on your map. You must walk the streets and match the photo’s composition. The reward for each successful find is a power upgrade point — one of the three you need to expand Dylan’s combat ability meter.

There are five photographs in total, one per zone. The honk resets after each resonant cycle, so if you missed one, come back after defeating a boss.

Zone-by-Zone Breakdown

Central. The first taxi spawns near the diner with the hidden basement puzzle. Head southeast from the Oldest House entrance. The horn is audible when you are on the main road. After the ride, the photograph shows the overhang of the diner’s awning.

West Incursion Zone. As noted, the taxi is by the parking garage. The photograph here shows the wrecked car on its roof near the zone’s northern barrier.

Evacuation Zone. The taxi appears near the Railyard Street Station entrance. The photograph shows the control panel inside the station’s ticket booth.

Park. This one is trickier. The taxi horn plays only after you clear the mold enemies near the central gazebo. The photograph shows a specific tree with a carved “X” on its trunk.

Underpass. The final taxi is hidden behind a doorway you must break with the crush hammer (the secondary blunt weapon). The photograph shows the inside of an FBC testing facility.

Completing the Quest

Once you find all five locations and return to each corresponding taxi for a second ride, the quest closes. You receive the Perpetual Cabbie artifact, which grants a passive 15% chance to regain power on any environmental interaction — lampposts, cars, barriers. It stacks with other power recovery effects.

That artifact is the reason to finish this quest before the final resonant boss. It turns every destructible object into a potential mana source.

A Warning for Completionists

The taxi quest only appears in the current resonant cycle. If you defeat a resonant boss and the world resets, the taxi spawns again — but the photograph from the previous cycle is gone. You cannot queue multiple photographs. Find and return each one before progressing the story.

If you finish the game and beat every resonant, the taxi stops spawning entirely. There is no post-game opportunity. Do this quest early.
