Elder Scrolls Online Launches Night Market Event Zone and Tamriel Tome Battle Pass in Major Console Update

By Central

The Elder Scrolls Online has deployed its largest systems overhaul in years with the release of Console Update 49, patch 2.82, fundamentally changing how players engage with both seasonal content and core progression mechanics. The update, which went live on March 9, 2026, introduces Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk, headlined by the challenging new Night Market event zone and the comprehensive Tamriel Tome battle pass system that permanently replaces the previous Endeavors and Daily Login Rewards.

Night Market: A Dynamic, Faction-Driven Battleground

Scheduled to open its gates on April 29, the Night Market represents a new tier of challenge in ESO as the game’s first official Event Zone. Located in a previously restricted district of Fargrave, this dynamic trade hub has descended into chaos following the disappearance of its leader, leaving three rival patrons vying for control. Players must navigate this perilous environment, pledging allegiance to one faction and completing activities to earn favor and unlock unique rewards.

The Three Factions Vying for Control

The faction struggle forms the narrative and gameplay core of the Night Market. The Glittering Goad, led by the patron Tachien, operates as a ruthless meritocracy controlling auctions and market stands, believing success is available to anyone who can pay the price. The Ruckus, under Kharakhal Moon-Eye, seeks control through brute strength, offering “protection” to businesses while demanding cuts from all goods sold; their district is currently overrun with literal darkness and grief. Finally, the Thousand Eyes, led by Molto the Whisperer, comprises the small and overlooked, gathering power through information and countless subtle actions to blunt the strength of their rivals.

Activities, Encounters, and Substantial Rewards

The zone is divided into three themed districts—The Parch, Skittering Precinct, and Sorrow’s Friend—each with unique environmental hazards and creature populations. Activities range from Daring Races through treacherous streets and puzzle-oriented Oddities to public Skirmish events and instanced 4-player boss encounters against Gilded monsters. The pinnacle challenge is The Opulent Ordeal, a new 12-player trial that tests coordination and skill.

Rewards are extensive and faction-aligned. By earning Favor, players can purchase items from faction vendors. Completing the introductory quest grants access to the Night’s Den, a new home with a direct entrance to the Market. The update adds 61 new achievements yielding six titles and three unique dyes, such as the “Firebrand” title with “Ruckus Rust” dye for Ruckus supporters. Collectibles include new Mementos like the Egg of Arac and numerous furnishings and busts available from vendors.

Tamriel Tome: A Complete Overhaul of Engagement Rewards

Launching on April 2, the Tamriel Tome system represents the most significant change to ESO’s reward structure since the introduction of Endeavors. This battle pass-style system is designed to reward consistent engagement with all aspects of the game. A new Tome launches with each Season and remains active for its full duration.

Progression, Tracks, and the New Trade Bar Economy

Progression is driven by a Challenge System featuring five Weekly Challenges that refresh each week (with a reroll capability) and larger, thematic Seasonal Challenges. Completing these earns Tome Points to unlock pages of rewards across two tracks. All players have access to a Free Track containing cosmetics, Seals, gameplay items, and the new Trade Bar currency. A Premium Track offers additional cosmetics and rewards and, once purchased, is permanently unlocked for the account.

The introduction of Trade Bars marks a major economic shift. This new currency, earned primarily from the Tamriel Tome but also from In-Game Events and Vengeance Campaigns, replaces Event Tickets. A conversion rate of 1 Event Ticket to 100 Trade Bars was applied automatically. Crucially, Trade Bars are never sold for Crowns, positioning them as a purely gameplay-earned currency. They are spent at the new Gold Coast Bazaar, a permanent store within the Crown Store UI that features mounts, pets, outfits, and gameplay items previously available through Golden Pursuits, Events, and promotions.

Major Quality of Life Improvements and System Changes

Beyond the flagship additions, Update 49 delivers sweeping quality-of-life enhancements that affect nearly every player. One of the most requested features, account-wide Outfit Slots, is now implemented, with a maximum of 10 slots that are cumulative across an account rather than per character. Perhaps the most universally impactful change is the introduction of free skill and attribute respecs directly from the UI, subject only to a small cooldown.

Player Experience and Progression Updates

Character progression has been streamlined and accelerated. Sixteen mounts previously available only for Crowns can now be purchased for gold, with existing gold mounts reduced to a flat 25,000 gold. Crafting Research is now 50% faster, with the maximum research time reduced from 30 to 10 days. The Transmute Crystal cap has been increased to 1,500 (3,000 for ESO+ subscribers). Bag and bank upgrades now cost 50% less gold, and upgrades can be purchased directly from the Inventory screen. Treasure Maps now stack up to 200 and are consumed only when a chest is opened.

ESO+ Enhanced Perks and Base Game Expansion

The subscription service, ESO+, receives substantial new benefits tied to the new systems. Subscribers gain a +10% bonus to Tome Points earned from Challenges and receive a monthly Cache of Tome Points plus one Premium Tome Token. Collecting 12 of these tokens unlocks a Premium Tome with bonus rewards. Additionally, the Solstice DLC (both Western and Eastern) is now included in the ESO+ library. Antiquities lead timers have been significantly extended for all players, with ESO+ members receiving double the base time, allowing up to one year for Ultimate Leads.

Combat Refresh: Dragonknight and Two-Handed Overhaul

Update 49 brings a comprehensive visual, audio, and mechanical update to the Dragonknight class and the Two-Handed weapon skill line. Every ability has received enhanced visual effects, new animations, and updated audio. More importantly, numerous skills have been rebalanced for better performance and clearer roles.

Key Dragonknight Changes

In the Ardent Flame line, Dragonknight Standard now buffs allies within its area, granting +300 Weapon and Spell Damage and reducing damage taken by 10%. Lava Whip has been adjusted to make maintaining its Empowered stacks easier, resulting in a 40% damage increase. Searing Strike’s duration has been extended to 10 seconds, effectively doubling its damage per second. Fiery Breath now restores resources over time, and Inferno becomes an 8-meter radius wave attack with no target cap.

The Draconic Power line sees Dragon Leap receive modernized movement and consistent crowd control effects. Spiked Armor also sees a 100% DPS increase over its 10-second duration. The Earthen Heart line introduces a new support ability, Superheated Ward, while Molten Weapons now causes light and heavy attacks to deal bonus Flame Damage.

Two-Handed Skill Adjustments

The Two-Handed skill line receives targeted improvements to increase its viability. Berserker Strike duration is increased to 12 seconds, Uppercut cast time is reduced to 500ms, and Momentum now lasts for 30 seconds, reducing the maintenance required for this critical buff.

New Item Sets and Endgame Content

The update introduces powerful new gear for endgame players. A new antiquity, the Shattered Paths Signet, causes status effect damage to scale with the player’s Ultimate capacity. Three new Monster Masks are tied to the Night Market factions: the Thousand Eyes mask introduces a Shivved mechanic with damage transfer; the Glittering Goad mask creates a Frost Damage chain on bash and heavy attacks; and The Ruckus mask provides stacking enrage effects that grant Major buffs at maximum stacks. A new PvP set, Gorethief, features a Bloodthief stacking mechanic consumed by bashes.

Housing, Fixes, and the Road Ahead

Housing enthusiasts receive two new homes: Buccaneer Bay, a sunny seaside notable home available later in the season, and the Night’s Den, earned through Night Market activities. Fifty-five new furnishings are added from various sources, including Master Writs, plans from Solstice coffers, and achievement rewards. The update also includes hundreds of fixes across zones, quests, UI, and technical performance, addressing issues from Solstice dialogue mismatches to rare crash scenarios.

With the launch of Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk, The Elder Scrolls Online has not just added new content but has re-architected its core reward loops and player progression systems. The Night Market offers a fresh, challenging, and faction-driven endgame activity, while the Tamriel Tome and its accompanying economy provide a more structured and rewarding path for regular engagement. Coupled with sweeping quality-of-life changes that remove long-standing friction points, this update represents a significant reinvestment in the game’s foundation, setting a new standard for how seasonal content and player progression can evolve in a long-running MMORPG.
