Marathon Patch 1.0.6.1 Adds Item Stacking and Weapon Fixes

Marathon update 1.013

Bungie has deployed a new update for its extraction shooter Marathon, bringing a series of targeted adjustments to the game’s item economy, weapon functionality, and overall stability. This patch, version 1.0.6.1 for desktop players and update 1.013 on consoles, follows a recent round of planned maintenance and focuses on refining the player experience mid-season.

The changes are not sweeping overhauls but rather concentrated improvements aimed at addressing specific player feedback and technical issues that have emerged since the last major update. The most notable adjustments involve how consumable items are managed and stacked, which directly impacts how runners prepare for and survive their expeditions on Tau Ceti IV.

Item Economy Enhancements and Inventory Adjustments

A core focus of this patch is streamlining the in-game economy and inventory management. Two significant changes stand out, designed to reduce friction and improve resource availability during runs.

First, the daily stock limits for Enhanced and Deluxe Sponsored Kits in the Armory have been increased. This adjustment gives players more consistent access to higher-tier gear sets each day, reducing the potential bottleneck for those looking to equip themselves with the best available loadouts before deploying. It’s a move that acknowledges the cadence of player engagement, ensuring that the gear rotation aligns better with daily play sessions.

Second, and perhaps more impactful for the moment-to-moment gameplay, is the increased stack size for Depleted Patch Kits and Depleted Shield Charges. These essential consumables, which are used to restore health and shields respectively, now stack to 6 in a player’s inventory, up from the previous limit of 3. This change fundamentally alters how runners manage their supplies. The increased capacity means players can carry twice as many of these items without consuming additional inventory slots, allowing for longer engagements and greater resilience during tense encounters or extended explorations.

To complement this stacking change, Standard rarity Sponsored Kits now also come bundled with stacks of 6 Depleted consumables instead of 3, immediately providing new runners with a more robust starting supply. Furthermore, the game’s economy has been adjusted so that Recruits—a primary source of these items during runs—now drop Depleted Patch Kits and Depleted Shield Charges at a “much higher rate.” This combination of changes ensures that these critical resources are both easier to carry and easier to find, smoothing out the logistical challenges that can sometimes hinder a run’s momentum.

Finally, to prevent unfortunate losses, the size of the overflow inventory has been increased. This backend system handles items that exceed a player’s primary storage capacity. The expansion addresses edge-case scenarios where valuable gear could be lost due to limited overflow space, particularly after successful runs with plentiful loot. It’s a safeguard that protects player progression.

Combat and Weapon Functionality Refinements

Beyond inventory management, the update delivers precise fixes to combat mechanics, enhancing reliability and control.

Toggle Zoom Behavior Fix

For players using keyboard and mouse, a specific issue with the Toggle Zoom function has been resolved. Previously, the Aim Down Sights (ADS) state could persist through actions that normally suppress it, such as swapping weapons or reloading. This created a problematic situation where players could find themselves stuck in a “bad state,” unable to use medical consumables like Patch Kits. The fix ensures that ADS correctly disengages during these actions, restoring the intended flow of combat and healing.

V85 Circuit Breaker Hit Registration

A notable bug affecting the V85 Circuit Breaker, a powerful energy-based weapon, has been addressed. There was an issue where firing immediately after a fully charged shot would display projectile animations and impact visual effects (VFX) on target, but the shot would not register as a hit. This disconnect between visual feedback and actual game logic could lead to frustrating moments where players felt their shots were connecting but dealing no damage. The patch corrects the underlying hit registration, ensuring the weapon’s behavior is now consistent and predictable.

User Interface and Map Improvements

The patch also introduces several quality-of-life improvements to the user interface and specific game zones, polishing areas where player experience could be unintentionally compromised.

Radial Menu Selection Accuracy

A common pain point for players using the radial menu for quick actions has been improved. The accuracy of selections after rapidly opening, choosing an item, and closing the menu has been enhanced. The goal, as noted in the update, is specifically to reduce instances where a player accidentally tosses a frag grenade at their own feet instead of deploying a bubble shield. This kind of input error can be costly in high-stakes situations, and the refinement should lead to more reliable use of tactical items.

Crew Loadout Display and Armory Visibility

Two visual issues have been corrected. First, an issue preventing crewmates’ weapon styles from appearing on their loadout display in the prepare screen has been fixed. This ensures players can see the customized appearance of their teammates’ gear, maintaining the visual cohesion and personalization of the squad. Second, in the Armory, barter weapons were not displaying their required barter cost on the weapon tile. This fix makes the trading system more transparent, allowing players to clearly see what materials are needed for a potential purchase without needing to navigate to additional screens.

Zone Exploit Fixes and Tutorial Polish

Specific zones have received targeted adjustments to maintain game integrity and improve onboarding.

In the Perimeter tutorial zone, the extraction countdown timer has been corrected. Previously, when entering the exfil circle, the timer would briefly flash “0:00” and disappear, rather than displaying a full, steady 10-second countdown. For new players learning the extraction mechanics, a clear and consistent timer is crucial. This fix provides a proper visual cue for the evacuation process.

More significantly, in the Cryo Archive zone, an out-of-bounds exploit has been removed. This exploit allowed runners to refund their gear if they deliberately stayed past the official run countdown timer. Such a loophole could undermine the risk-reward economy of the game, allowing players to circumvent losses by exploiting a timing bug. Its removal reinforces the intended design where commitments made during a run are final once the clock expires.

This collection of updates represents a focused mid-season tuning pass. It builds upon the foundation laid by the recent mid-season patch, addressing emergent gameplay nuances and technical hiccups. The emphasis is clearly on stability, fairness, and player convenience—adjusting stack sizes to reduce inventory micromanagement, fixing weapon bugs to ensure combat reliability, and closing exploits to protect the game’s competitive and economic integrity. These iterative improvements are part of the ongoing development cycle, with further updates anticipated as the season continues.
