Elder Scrolls Online Season Zero Launches Night Market Zone and Replaces Endeavors with Tamriel Tome Battle Pass

By Central

The landscape of Tamriel has shifted dramatically with the release of Update 49 for The Elder Scrolls Online on consoles, formally known as patch 2.82. This substantial content drop, launching Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk, introduces a challenging new event zone, completely overhauls the game’s progression reward system, and delivers sweeping quality-of-life improvements that fundamentally change the player experience. The centerpiece is the Night Market, a dynamic and faction-driven area within Fargrave that presents some of the game’s most difficult cooperative content to date.

Night Market: A Dangerous New Faction War in Fargrave

Launching on April 29, the Night Market event zone represents a new tier of challenging content for ESO. Following the mysterious disappearance of its former overseer, this once-restricted Daedric trade hub is now a battleground for three rival factions, each vying for control. Players are invited to pledge allegiance to one patron, completing activities to earn favor and influence the zone’s volatile power balance.

The Three Factions Vying for Control

The conflict is shaped by three distinct factions, each with its own philosophy and aesthetic. The Glittering Goad, led by the patron Tachien, operates as a ruthless meritocracy controlling auctions and market stands, believing success is available to anyone who can pay the price. Their opposition, The Ruckus under Kharakhal Moon-Eye, seeks control through brute strength, offering “protection” to businesses while demanding a cut of all goods. The third faction, the Thousand Eyes led by Molto the Whisperer, comprises the small and overlooked, gathering power through information and collective action.

Challenging Activities and Substantial Rewards

The Night Market is divided into three themed districts—The Parch, Skittering Precinct, and Sorrow’s Friend—each overrun with unique environmental hazards and creatures. Activities range from defeating new bosses like Faceted and Calamitous monsters, participating in daring races through treacherous streets, solving puzzle-oriented Oddities, and engaging in public-style Skirmishes with dynamic goals. The pinnacle of group content is the 12-player trial, The Opulent Ordeal, designed to test coordination and skill at the highest level.

Rewards for participation are extensive. Players can earn powerful, stackable Boons, Favor currency to purchase items from faction vendors, and even a new home called the Night’s Den, which features a direct entrance to the Market. The update adds 61 new achievements, including six titles and three exclusive dyes, alongside collectible Mementos, furnishings, and twelve new Dragonknight skill styles available from Stylemaster Vendors.

Tamriel Tome: A Complete Overhaul of Progression Rewards

Perhaps the most significant systemic change arriving with Update 49 on April 2 is the introduction of the Tamriel Tome, a battle pass-style system that permanently replaces the Endeavors and Daily Login Reward systems. This new framework is designed to reward consistent engagement with ESO content throughout each Season.

Progression Through Challenges

The Tamriel Tome progression is driven by a new Challenge System. Each week, players have access to five Weekly Challenges that can be rerolled if undesirable, with a catch-up mechanic allowing up to twelve uncompleted weeklies to accumulate. Larger, themed Seasonal Challenges provide additional long-term objectives. Completing these challenges awards Tome Points, which are used to unlock pages of rewards across two tracks.

Free and Premium Reward Tracks

All players have access to a Free Track containing cosmetics, the new Trade Bar currency, and gameplay items. A separate Premium Track offers additional cosmetic rewards and is permanently unlocked for the account once purchased. ESO+ subscribers receive enhanced benefits, including a 10% boost to Tome Points earned from challenges and monthly grants of a Cache of Tome Points and a Premium Tome Token. Collecting twelve of these tokens unlocks a Premium Tome with bonus rewards.

Introducing the Gold Coast Bazaar and Trade Bars

Launching slightly earlier on March 25, the Gold Coast Bazaar is a new permanent store accessible through the Crown Store interface. Crucially, all items within are purchased exclusively with Trade Bars, a new gameplay currency that directly replaces Event Tickets. Existing Event Tickets have been automatically converted at a rate of 1 Ticket to 100 Trade Bars. The Bazaar is divided into a Seasonal section with rotating cosmetics and a permanent Gold Coast Wares section, featuring mounts, pets, outfits, and gameplay items previously available through Golden Pursuits and events.

Major Quality-of-Life and System Improvements

Beyond new content, Update 49 delivers an unprecedented suite of player experience enhancements. Many long-requested features have been implemented, significantly reducing friction in daily gameplay.

Account-Wide Unlocks and Reduced Costs

Outfit Slots are now account-wide, with a maximum of ten slots, and previously purchased slots are cumulative across characters. The cost of bag and bank upgrades has been reduced by 50% in gold, with corresponding Crown cost reductions. Several features have been made free: players can now hide gloves, boots, belts, pants, and chest armor at no cost, and respeccing skills or attributes is now free directly from the UI, subject to a small cooldown. Sixteen mounts previously available only for Crowns can now be purchased for gold, with existing gold mounts reduced to a flat price of 25,000 gold.

Streamlined Character Progression

Multiple progression systems have been accelerated. Crafting research is now 50% faster, with the maximum research time reduced from 30 days to 10. Stable training now allows for three upgrades per session instead of one. The experience gained on a character’s back bar is now equal to the front bar, ensuring more consistent skill leveling. Furthermore, new discoverable shrines for Vampire and Werewolf curses have been added to the world, and the Crown Store cure for these afflictions now costs 0 Crowns.

Enhanced ESO+ Benefits

The subscription service receives substantial new perks. The Transmute Crystal cap has been tripled from 1,000 to 3,000 for ESO+ members. Antiquities lead timers are now doubled in length, with Ultimate Leads lasting up to one year for subscribers. Furnishing limits for homes have been increased, and the Solstice DLC (both Western and Eastern) is now included in the ESO+ content library.

Combat Refinements: Dragonknight and Two-Handed Overhauls

Update 49 brings focused combat updates, primarily to the Dragonknight class and the Two-Handed weapon skill line. These changes include modernized visual effects, animations, and audio, alongside balance adjustments and functionality improvements.

Dragonknight Ability Updates

Key Dragonknight abilities have been reworked for greater impact and utility. Dragonknight Standard now provides a group buff, increasing Weapon and Spell Damage for allies while reducing damage taken. Lava Whip has been adjusted to make maintaining its Empowered state easier while receiving a damage increase. Searing Strike and Spiked Armor have seen their durations and damage-per-second significantly improved. Fiery Breath now restores resources over time, and Inferno becomes a wide-area wave attack with no target cap.

Two-Handed Skill Adjustments

The Two-Handed skill line receives quality-of-life adjustments to improve flow. Berserker Strike’s duration has been extended, Uppercut’s cast time has been reduced to 500ms for more responsive gameplay, and Momentum now lasts for a full 30 seconds, reducing the need for frequent recasting.

General Combat Improvements

Several universal combat improvements have been implemented. The resurrection ability can now be cast while moving at 10% speed, and characters can phase through NPCs during the cast. An issue where opening the user interface while bracing could lock player action has been resolved.

New Item Sets and PvP Updates

The update introduces new gear options stemming from the new content. Three new Monster Masks are tied to the Night Market factions, each with unique mechanics: the Thousand Eyes mask features a “Shivved” damage transfer effect, the Glittering Goad mask chains Frost Damage on bashes and heavy attacks, and The Ruckus mask provides stacking enrage bonuses. A new PvP set, Gorethief, introduces a bloodthief stacking mechanic consumed by bashes.

In PvP, Cyrodiil receives a movement speed bonus for players on roads while out of combat, and keep courtyards have been expanded to prevent gatehouse exploits. Campaign queuing now allows cross-campaign queueing, and leaderboards have been expanded to 500 entries. Battlegrounds see the return of 3-sided matches for weekend events and adjustments to spawn points on maps like Huntsman Fortress and Remen’s Folly.

Base Game Expansion and Content Integration

In a move to simplify access for new and returning players, several major content pieces have been integrated into the base game. Upon first login after Update 49, all players will automatically receive the Warden class and the Imperial City, Orsinium, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood DLCs for free. Correspondingly, the Guilds and Glory Mega Pack has been removed from the Crown Store. The Morrowind DLC, which was already part of the base game, has been formally removed as a separate purchasable item.

This update represents one of the most comprehensive shifts in The Elder Scrolls Online’s live service model, moving from passive daily login rewards to an active, engagement-driven battle pass system while layering in a deep, challenging new zone and addressing years of community feedback on quality of life. The changes to core systems like crafting, outfitting, and progression ease the burden on both new adventurers and seasoned veterans, paving the way for Season Zero and the evolving stories yet to unfold in the chaotic, faction-riven stalls of the Night Market.
