Respawn Entertainment has deployed a substantial update for its flagship battle royale, Apex Legends, on March 24, 2026. Update 3.06 introduces a wave of changes aimed at reshaping the competitive landscape, enhancing audio clarity, and refining the core gameplay experience across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. The patch focuses on empowering specific Legends, introducing a new tactical weapon, adjusting a key map, and implementing significant improvements to the game’s AI-driven bot behavior.
Legends Receive Powerful New Abilities and Buffs
The centerpiece of this update is a series of impactful adjustments to several Legends, with Gibraltar and Wraith receiving particularly strong enhancements designed to increase their viability and strategic depth.
Gibraltar’s Defensive Dominance Enhanced
Gibraltar, the defensive fortress, has been fortified with substantial upgrades across his kit. His Passive now grants a Momentum Boost after maintaining sprint speed, improving his mobility, and his punch damage is doubled against Hardlight structures, making him a more potent close-quarters threat. The cooldown for his Tactical, Dome of Protection, has been reduced from 17 seconds to 13 seconds, allowing for more frequent defensive plays.
His Ultimate, Defensive Bombardment, sees a 20% radius increase, a faster missile call-in time, and can now be thrown before the equip animation finishes, enabling quicker reactive deployments. His upgrade paths have been radically restructured. The Level 2 upgrades now include “Thunder Dome,” which electrifies the dome to deal 50 damage and slow the first enemy entering, and “Healing Dome,” which extends the duration by 4 seconds and doubles the effectiveness of small healing items used inside. At Level 3, “Triple Bombardment” splits the ultimate into three smaller charges, offering more tactical flexibility, while several previous upgrades have been removed to streamline his progression.
Wraith Gains Increased Tactical Flexibility
Wraith’s kit has been tuned for greater agility and frequency. The cooldown of her Tactical ability, Into the Void, has been reduced to 15 seconds, and her Ultimate, Dimensional Rift, now has a cooldown of just 1.5 minutes with a faster activation animation. Her new upgrades introduce novel mechanics: at Level 2, “Phase Dome” creates a void zone during portal channeling, and at Level 3, her Tactical duration increases to 6 seconds and she gains a double jump while in the void, significantly enhancing her evasion and repositioning capabilities.
Wattson Integrates with Hardlight Systems
Wattson’s role as a area-denial specialist has been deepened with integration into the game’s Hardlight mechanics. Her Tactical, Perimeter Security, now reinforces nearby Hardlight meshes, its damage increased to 35, and deployment time reduced to 0.5 seconds. Her Ultimate, Interception Pylon, also reinforces Hardlight meshes within its area, making her a crucial component for fortifying positions in maps utilizing this technology.
New Hemlok Breach AR and Weapon Adjustments
Introduction of the Hemlok Breach AR
A new Elite Weapon enters the arsenal: the Hemlok Breach AR. This variant features a new automatic firing mode, an integrated silencer, and increased damage to structures and Hardlight. Its unique mechanic is a “Breach Charge” explosive shot with a 15-second cooldown, designed for breaching fortified positions or creating sudden openings in combat.
Balance Changes Across the Arsenal
Several other weapons have been adjusted. The 30-30 Repeater’s base damage has been increased to 43. The RE-45’s energy burst version is now the default configuration. The P2020 sees a reduced Hammerpoint unlock requirement to 425 and a magazine size increase to 9. The EVA-8 shotgun has an improved reload speed, and the Prowler PDW benefits from a reduced burst fire delay and improved recoil control.
Olympus Map Adjusted to Reduce Early Contest Density
A strategic change has been made to the Olympus map to address frequent high-contest drops in competitive matches. The area known as Elysium has been relocated to the northeast near the Rift, with accompanying terrain adjustments to support the new location. This shift aims to distribute player density more evenly during the initial drop phase, providing teams with more varied strategic options at the start of a match.
Smartened Bot AI and Quality-of-Life Refinements
Bots Evolve into More Dynamic Combatants
The behavior of Apex Bots has undergone a significant overhaul, making them more intelligent and challenging opponents. A new in-combat healing system allows bots to seek cover and heal when damaged. Their target acquisition and awareness have been improved, making them harder to sneak up on and smarter in choosing engagement priorities. Movement has been enhanced with improved strafing that allows them to close distance more aggressively, and a new weapon switching system based on target distance. Furthermore, bots now better utilize map traversal tools like ziplines, ziprails, and jump towers to pursue targets.
Audio and Engine Optimizations
Long-standing community feedback on audio has been addressed. The volume of Hardlight mesh breaking has been lowered, while the volume of enemy footsteps outside the player’s field of view has been increased. Footstep volume now scales up as enemies move further behind the player, providing clearer directional audio cues. On PC, support for the Windows Audio Session API (WASAPI) enables microphone input enhancements like Windows 11 Voice Clarity.
Performance and Visual Improvements
Engine optimizations aim for smoother performance. Static objects now use bindless resources and batching to reduce draw calls and improve CPU performance. The Olympus map utilizes improved occlusion culling algorithms. Systems supporting Resizable BAR (ReBAR) see faster GPU data uploads, reducing texture and model pop-in. Visual quality sees incremental gains with improved reflection intensity in dark areas, and enhanced ambient and specular occlusion clarity.
Key Quality-of-Life Adjustments
Several player-friendly changes have been implemented. Octane’s jump pad double jump can now be used while healing. The Alternator’s double-tap hit markers have been removed for clearer reticle visibility and target tracking. Vault keys no longer change the color of death boxes, simplifying loot identification. Weapon sight clarity has been improved on select skins, and the iron sight on the 30-30 Repeater’s “Long-Distance Agony” skin has been cleaned up.
Mixtape Rotation and Event Schedule
A new Mixtape rotation runs from March 24 to May 5, 2026, featuring Team Deathmatch on Skull Town, Fragment, and Estates; Control on Labs, Thunderdome, and Lava Siphon; and Gun Run on Monument, Skull Town, and Thunderdome. The Wildcard event for Broken Moon begins on March 31, followed by an April Friends Day event on April 1. A series of ranked ladder events are scheduled between April 2 and May 3, 2026.
Bug Fixes and Legacy Issue Resolution
Legend-Specific Corrections
Various bugs affecting Legends have been resolved. Bloodhound’s “on knock” behaviors now correctly trigger in the firing range. Catalyst’s Piercing Spikes dead spot has been fixed, and it no longer activates from the owner’s proximity in friendly-fire enabled ranges. Octane’s Stim Surge no longer remains in the alternate hand while using Akimbo. Fuse’s Level 3 upgrade Reignition now functions correctly against firing range dummies. An issue where Newcastle’s wall could destroy Mad Maggie’s Wrecking Ball if deployed too closely has been fixed.
Visual and Audio Glitches Addressed
Visual inconsistencies have been patched. Sparrow’s SWAT Scout skin no longer appears bright red at long distances. Issues with parts of Catalyst and Conduit’s Heart Machine skin remaining visible during a Mirage revive, and decals on Crypto’s Destiny Gundam Spec II skin remaining visible while cloaked, have been resolved. Audio mix settings on consoles now save properly.
This comprehensive update represents Respawn’s ongoing commitment to refining the core Apex Legends experience, balancing the meta, and addressing technical and quality-of-life concerns raised by the community. The strengthened Legends, new tactical weapon options, smarter AI opponents, and optimized performance collectively aim to deliver a more dynamic, fair, and polished battle royale environment for both casual and competitive players.
