Crimson Desert Patch 1.01 Adds Five New Mounts and Major Gameplay Improvements

By Central

The expansive world of Pywel has received a significant expansion with the deployment of Crimson Desert’s Update 1.01. The patch, version 1.000.169, delivers a substantial content injection alongside a comprehensive suite of quality-of-life enhancements, performance fixes, and stability improvements across PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox platforms. This update represents the most substantial post-launch support for the game to date, directly addressing player feedback and refining core systems.

New Mounts and Expanded Content

At the forefront of the update are five new summonable mounts, each requiring players to fulfill specific in-game conditions to unlock. While the developers have kept the exact identities of these creatures under wraps to avoid spoilers, their addition significantly broadens the traversal options available across the game’s diverse landscapes. The introduction of these mounts is complemented by the addition of numerous chests scattered throughout the Pywel region, containing various crafting materials to aid in player progression.

Streamlined Crafting and Inventory Management

Update 1.01 introduces several key items and functions designed to reduce grind and streamline gameplay loops. The new “Refinement Token” allows players to temper equipment up to Stage 4 without consuming any additional materials, a boon for end-game gear enhancement. These tokens are obtainable from specific main and faction quests. The crafting system sees a major efficiency boost with the “Make Now” function, enabling immediate cooking or crafting once a recipe is selected, bypassing the manual ingredient selection process.

Inventory management has been overhauled with a new “Store all selected items” function, allowing bulk transfers to private storage with a single command. Furthermore, players who have reached the maximum inventory expansion limit of 240 slots will now receive boxes containing crafting materials for any additional expansion items obtained, ensuring no reward is wasted.

Quality of Life Adjustments Across Pywel

The patch notes detail numerous subtle but impactful changes to the game world. Shopkeepers have been improved; players can now learn knowledge for all items sold in a shop at once, with the learning time standardized to three seconds. The functionality of tools like the Mining Knuckledrill and Demenissian Chainsaw has been refined, allowing collected resources to be gathered immediately. Wells now yield five units of water per interaction, and pets have been adjusted to prevent them from straying too far during combat and to fix issues that previously prevented them from looting.

Refined Controls and Combat Mechanics

Player movement and control have received focused attention. General movement for both the character and horses has been smoothed, with adjustments to how sprint speed builds and is maintained. The Flight ability, a key traversal tool, has seen its stamina consumption reduced, its activation hiccups fixed, and its utility improved to allow the use of equipped items while airborne.

Aerial Combat and Stamina Balancing

A significant rework has been applied to the Aerial Stab skill. Previously exploitable for repeated mid-air use, the skill has been adjusted to preserve its fun as a movement mechanic while maintaining game balance. Its animation has been improved, and the stamina cost now increases with each consecutive use. Similarly, the stamina requirements for Aerial Maneuver and Aerial Swing have been reduced. Stamina management during standard sprinting and while using Crow Wings has also been made less punishing.

Combat Clarity and Interface Tweaks

Combat readability is enhanced with the addition of weak point indicator effects for each elemental damage type. The user interface now displays a guide for drawing weapons during combat, and an aim key guide has been added for tool-type items. Several combat bugs have been squashed, including an issue where the Blinding Flash and Spinning Slash skills could be interrupted under specific conditions and a problem where the knockback range of Focused Repulsion was abnormally large.

Enhanced User Interface and Navigation

The patch brings a host of UI improvements aimed at providing clearer information and reducing friction. A highly requested feature allowing the minimap to be fixed with North at the top has been implemented. The Skills menu now displays stat increases for the next skill level, aiding in planning character development. Icons have been added to the minimap to mark the locations of keys and anvils.

Quest and Notification Overhauls

The Notifications menu has been expanded to allow players to check detailed quest and challenge progress, reward information, and timestamps, with storage capacity increased to 2,000 entries. The Journal menu now features an icon to indicate newly available quests. Several progression-blocking bugs in specific quests, such as “New Journey,” “Missing Companion,” and “Dance with the Devil,” have been resolved, and additional guide prompts have been added where guidance was previously lacking.

Graphics, Performance, and Stability

On the technical front, Update 1.01 delivers crucial optimizations. Loading times have been notably reduced when fast traveling via Abyss Traces and when respawning after defeat. The developers have fixed multiple stability issues and crashes across all platforms, including specific frame drop problems during the Crowcaller boss fight. Visual rendering has been improved for low-resolution environments and when using upscaling technologies like FSR-RR and DLSS-RR, with particular attention paid to the correct rendering of translucent materials like hair and fur.

For PlayStation 5 users, a new “Fixed 4K Output” option has been added. When enabled, this forces a 4K output signal, providing a sharper image on compatible displays, even when using FSR upscaling in Performance Mode on the base PS5. A persistent issue causing increased screen noise during long play sessions has also been addressed.

Bug Fixes and World Polish

The patch notes conclude with an extensive list of miscellaneous bug fixes that polish the game’s many interlocking systems. Issues ranging from cows not following correctly during herding, to unintended criminal acts being triggered, to specific Abyss gear not activating have been corrected. Interactions with the game world have been smoothed out, fixing problems where falling into shallow water could teleport the character or where housing mode would close unexpectedly.

Localization has received attention, with fixes for incorrectly displayed quest objectives and various text errors across all supported languages. The update even adds subtle immersive touches, such as sound effects for when certain animals consume meat. This comprehensive patch builds upon the foundation laid by the earlier day-one update, which introduced a new Chapter 3 tutorial and rebalanced skills and bosses. By tackling a wide array of technical issues, refining controls, and adding meaningful new content, Update 1.01 for Crimson Desert marks a decisive step in evolving the game into a more polished, responsive, and engaging experience for all adventurers in Pywel.
